Done! I reserved from the 19th to Saturday night - leaving on Sunday morning. Sunday night and all the next week was already booked up.

Done. For those of us who get frustrated with phone numbers that come in letters, the reservation number is 800-426-7866. If you are a member of the Hilton Honors program have your number. Not sure what if anything it does but they will ask.

Hey Tom, after "WP" what were those other phrases?

See you all in New Bedford!

Mike-

Not at Hampton Inn... Wifi is always included in your room cost. Only at the Hilton Brand hotels is there a Wifi cost if you are not a gold or higher HH member.

Wow, I actually reserved a hotel room early. I never do that! Thanks Tom. Hilton has a deal with some car rental companies that they will refer you to when you make reservation for hotel. I have not compared rates yet.
The airport is KEWB and the FBO is Sandpiper Air

Gary,

Don't forget another island to land on - Fisher's Island, New York. Elizabeth Field is the name of the airport. Short runways 2,328'+- but with excellent asphalt. That's the middle of the "Three State Challenge" which lets you fly from the first state (KGON) land in the second (zero B eight) and then land in the third state (KWST) and only fly 17nm. This is all on the way to New Bedford, Massachusetts - BACFest 2017.

Added to the list of places to stop. :)

Rap and Charlotte are in.

FYI the discounted room price is only good Tues night before BF17, don't know how much later. Still a good deal.

Rap

I reserved my room for arriving on Tues. 9/19 and departing on Sunday 9/24. Tried to arrive earlier and stay later and the rate was not available outside of this dates. Tried online and a phone call.

Might try to stay at Marty's Vineyard for a week or two before. Then I will be sleeping in the plane at BACfest ........ :D

That will be me at the intersection in town .... with a cardboard sign ..... Will work for 100LL ......

I believe that there still are a few family style campgrounds on Martha's Vineyard. And some reasonably priced hotels in some areas of the island.

Paul, I am glad you are a believer!
Campgrounds and reasonably priced hotels on Martha's Vineyard. Wow! What a concept.

There is a tiny landing strip on Tuckernuck Island which is midway between Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. I've been there and found a second "old" runway and used it too. Only did this once twenty years ago. The main runway looks more like front yards of the few houses there. Maybe you can set up a tent in the off season. (They call it the "Off Season" because once you land they tell you to "Get off"). Think I'll check it out on Google Earth to see the status today.

Nantucket Island is charming and expensive.

Nelson,
At BACFest in Branson I gave an introductory lesson in "Boston talk". That included "chowda, lobsta and wicked pissah".
HOWEVER, if you are going to fit in - there is no such place as Marty's Vineyard in local dialect. If you are not saying the full name Martha's Vineyard, you simply say "THE VINEYARD". To do differently marks you as a tourist... probably from San Antonio. It is important for me to save you from embarrassment.

Hmmm I see what you mean Tom. The tent sites are $58/ night. OB cheapest hotel still about $128/ night. I am going to say that perhaps next year if there is interest a few of us can rent a place for 4-5 through airbnb etc and enjoy a few days up there.
