BAC Fest 2007

I'm tired of this BAC thread, let's get on with something else-WHY ?because I can't go of course !! ha ha I'm sending Dan in my place. Do I get the PT points?

New Idea

Say, that's it! PT Point Offsets! Just like Carbon Offsets but you pay someone to go to BAC Fest and you get the points.
OK, I'll take the bull by the horns. Who wants to pay me to go to BAC Fest for the points????
Anyone? Buehler?

Maybe Cloyd will come up with something to convince those on the West coast to make it east of the mighty river. Maybe he could grant 50% PT miles for commercial travel if based west of the river. Who knows.. maybe some will make it.

Doug

He can't do that. I am 12,000 miles west of the river and I am booked to go. That would take it away from the "regulars".

PT Miles

Mark,

Which way are you calculating those miles. I show about 6500 nm from Sydney to San Francisco. It is another 2100 or so to Myrtle Beach.

If they give you half the 6500 that's 3250. That would put you just ahead of me when you arrive at SFO. But I'm putting on another 2100 getting to Myrtle Beach and if we go through Oregon, maybe 300 more than that.

I think I'm safe even if someone comes from South Africa. That is just over 7000 nm great circle to Myrtle Beach and half of that is 3500.

I'm counting on the fight being for second place. Next year, it's an open field. With Bac Fest 2008 out west, I won't have a prayer.

Dan,
It was actually just a guess based on the flight being about 16 hours. (Melbourne is 500m south of Sydney, and I am 100m south of MEL) Since the commercial miles don't count, I didn't bother to look. Anyway, the trophy rightfully belongs to someone who goes to multiple events, and not to somebody that does a "oncer" from the other side of the world.

I just flew flight sim 2004 around the world and landed at Myrtle Beech for BAC-I want my points!! If you can't buy that how about a video conference with Dan during BAC? Any points in that?

I am waiting to see how many they count of mine....Texas => BAC Fest via Key West :D Seems like a perfectly legitimate diversion to me.

Sounds good to me! But, if CalifDan makes the flight, I don't think anyone is gonna touch his total miles this year! If he doesn't make the flight, you might hava a shot!

Good luck!

We'll be doing MN->FL->SC but Dan will spank us all - plus BACFest will probably be my only fly-in this year, schedule at work and extended annual downtime was hard on flying hours.

Actually in general I'd be curious to hear from somebody who has access to the master list a rough count of how many people are coming from West of the Mississippi (although we're just west - KMIC's Class D crosses the river...but we're north of 45N...).

We're getting ready. SuperMouse got a bath and is getting shined up this week, my Nav/Com arrived at Narco today via FedEx and should be back, and we have a new plane cover coming since she's not used to sitting in the sun and rain...

Although I'm having to cut a new pitot cover to fit tight - managed to leave the pitot heat on taxiing over to the wash stand, amazing how a little 1/2" melt spot will make that sucker stick on, oops.

Minnesota Ice

Mark,

I knew Minnesota was cold, but you have to have your pitot heat on to taxi there? Are you allowed to taxi into "known" icing conditions?

Bet you won't do that again for a little while. Now let's just hope my smart a** remark does not come back to bite me.

I started up about a month ago with a wheel chock on the nose wheel. It took me about 2 seconds to recognize the problem and then had to shut down for that walk of shame. Second time I have done that in 38 years with the first being as a pre-solo student pilot.

Always something to humble us.

One of my personal SOPs is unhooking the tow bar is _always_ the first thing I do after pulling her around except when actually in the hangar. Read too many stories on the cost of that particular mistake...

Me and that pitot cover have always had issues. I took off with it on once, noticed the 0 airspeed during the rolling flow check, knew immediately what I had done but decided a takeoff was safer than an abort at that point (we don't exactly calculate start/stop distances in our little birds). Of course I had to do it at a controlled field. Luckily later in the evening with just me and the very bored controller and no wind. He let me land and shut down on the runway and go remove it and then return and take off. Oops.

So I've got a new checklist - a "post pullout/pre-entry" mini-walkaround. Towbar off, pitot cover off, baggage door closed, gross FOD check (our alleyways aren't in the best shape and in winter ice chunks abound...).

Lets see kewn to kcre, thats about 100 miles. How many points is that. There ought to be a prize for the shortest distance. You guys will love Myrtle Beach. I signed up yesterday , but can't fly in till Thur. Hope I don't miss too much. Seeyou there

Arrival?

Sorry if I missed this somewhere else, but what's the plan upon arrival, Is somebody gonna be by a big BAC table and banner, is everybody gonna just mill around and chat at the airport until bout 3 pm when we can check in. How about late arrivals is there a contact number or is it just get there by your self if the van is done for the day?

Steve

As we get a little closer, I would like to get everyones tentative arrival plans. We will run a van from Ramp 66 (KCRE) to the Caravelle Hotel for arrivals as long as necessary. You can reach my cell phone (304)887-1180.

If you plan to rent a car while at Myrtle Beach, Ramp 66 has given us a 10% discount for those tied down at Ramp 66. Just mention that you are with BAC group. It may be a good idea to reserve ahead of time.
