AOPA has scheduled their first fly-in of the 2024 season at the Buckeye Air Fair, Arizona on February 16-18 at KBXK. I have already registered with AOPA to attend the event. If we have other BAC members planning to be there, let's try and organized a meet up. AOPA will have some seminars, and there are airshows planned for each day. Details on the event can be found on the AOPA website: https://aopa.org/buckeye. There will be AOPA seminars and a Pilot Town Hall with Mark Baker, but the schedule of events has not been posted yet. Last year the Air Fair attacted about 30,000 visitors, so I am told. There is camping onsite if you want to fly in and pitch a tent by your plane.

I plan to fly myself there, weather permitting, on Feb 16 and depart the 18th, after the show ends. Anyone else planning to go, please chime in so we can organize a meet up of some type. Open to Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner or just hang out and watch the airshow together.

I've registered to attend. I need to find a car and hotel, preferably a hotel farther away from those listed which are over $200/night.

Hi Michael,

The wife and I have registered at one of the event hotels - I believe we chose the TownPlace Suites. We're going to try the shuttle service provided this year and see how that works out. Look forward to seeing you there.

Michael,

I'll probably be there with the truck, it has 4 doors and I wouldn't mind shuttling you to and from. There is a Days Inn in Buckeye for $86/night. Its only 9 minutes from the Airport.

Update:
There is a little more up-scale My-Place Hotel for $129/night. It has a couple of restaurants within walking distance, a Cracker Barrel and Booty's wings, burgers and beer. The Holiday Inn is $150/night but is next to the Interstate. The Buckeye Motor Hotel is $71/night, but a little limited on restaurants nearby, but there are two. The Ranch House Motel and the Westward Motel are closes by the Buckeye Motor Hotel. I assume that East Buckeye Hotels have jumped their prices from the $110-130 range. I got the prices on Google Maps, it could be everyone has bumped up their prices.

Thanks Marty, the hotels you mention seem to be up to $183/night to $285/night. Guess it's high season and a busy weekend with the event, so I've got them right where they want me. Now I just need my plane to come back from the avionics shop... Looking forward to seeing you all there.

For those interested in flying into Buckeye and renting a vehicle -
AOPA has the info and link for obtaining a rental car now for Buckeye. You have to reserve a car through Enterprise, and pay a drop charge. See the Buckeye page on the AOPA website for important details on how to complete your car reservation.

The seminar schedule for the 2024 Buckeye Air Fair has been posted on the AOPA website. Visit https://aopa.org/buckeye for information.

Also, the City of Buckeye's website has the updated Pilot Procedures for the Fly-In. From what I can see, there could be a few changes compared to last year. If you are planning to fly in, best to know the procedures in advance. You can get to the City of Buckeye page from the AOPA Buckeye Event page.
Here's the direct link to the procedure to save a few clicks:

As long as the weather cooperates on Friday, I will be flying in for the event. Looking forward to starting off the flying season for 2024 and seeing a few friends.

Hi John - hope you can make it, as the weather on the West Coast has indeed been rather active lately. Could affect my flight there too.

In studying the seminar schedules, be aware that the seminar schedules show events on Friday and Saturday, with none scheduled for Sunday. Since there are no seminars scheduled for Sunday, I will likely fly out before the airshow starts.

The Sport I've been working on is now up and flying. The owner, Nathan and I will fly up on Saturday. It will be a day trip for us. Michael, I won't have the truck and will not be able to provide any transportation at the fly-in, please plan accordingly. But, looking forward to seeing everyone.

Marty, thanks for the head up and offering if you had been able. I'll manage. I'll try to bring the old jo bolt pneumatic guns to you this trip.

Dang! My wife has advised that we have a commitment for Saturday. So I can't fly up on the 17th. Maybe I can drive up on the 18th.

Well folks, the weather looks great for the Buckeye Air Fair later this week. Sunny skies and mild temps for the daytime are in the forecast. Unfortunately, the weather is not so cooperative where I live, and appears to be getting active again on the day I was scheduled to leave. So I am electing to drive to the event this time.

By the way, an updated event schedule has been posted on the AOPA website at aopa.org/buckeye.
