Gastons - 2008, Saturday, November 1st

Wound up with four Sierras on the line! All the other three were prettier than Sunny Beech; he was embarrassed. JB will probably post participation.

Well we had another great BAC to Gaston's. Weather was perfect, one of our warmer ones actually.

Many thanks to everyone.
Our 4 Sierra's were brought in by:
1) Bill McClellan and Kathy from Arkansas
2) Gary Drussel and Patty out of Kansas
3) Ron Powell and Violet from Burlington, IA
4) and Mike Rellihan, Paula and Skye out of Laurens, SC.

Photo's are available in the photo gallery under South Central Flyin's --> Gaston's 2008.

Weather concerns and mechanical failrues seems to be the prime suspects for a few last minute cancellations. One note about what I've learned coming to Gaston's the last few years... In our 5 years there has been a good rain the day before 2 different years. The field dries out very rapidly. One year it had a few puddles on top, but it has never seemed soft or mushy.

Let's do it again next year.

Ron, you should at least make a landing at Gaston's so the usual suspects can give you a grade. Then you could make the short hop back to BPK and send for the van.
CLOYT I missed seeing you at Gastons. I was looking for you at the end of the strip, so I made a low pass . Where were you ? Now I dont know my grade! Hope things are well with you. It was a good time at Gastons, and a nice resort. Hope to see you later Your Friend Ron Powell :?:

Ron,

I was hiding behind one of those big trees on the approach end of the runway.

I saw you walk away and it looked like you could use the plane again so I gave you an A.

Actually don't let Ron fool you Cloyd, he was being a bit sneaky and waited until we were all around the table grading the lunch service before he came in for his landing grade... So we give him an A for sliding in just in the nick of time... ;)

Ron, did you enjoy Copper John's? Did you convince anyone at the wedding that you were a distant relative??

JB I think the people at Copper Johns are great. It seems some people from AK. had rented the night before and checked out. So they moved us into the unit that you had the night before. The units are not bad at all I think and a good value. The owner Libby and her husband Rod even gave me her car to drive. I guess Im full of bs because they liked me I think. Sun Morning I went to the office to find a early breakfast item and they just sell fish luers & bait. Rod had some Jimmy Deen egg biskets and gave me one. I talked so long Vi called me and wondered if I had left with out her! I might do alot of things but I would never leave Violet my partner for life! Oh the wedding I forgot. We walked from Gastons Sat. night about 930 and arrived at Copper Johns 10 ish. The wedding was not loud at all and after I arrived at the room I was tired and went to bed. Sun. AM was a fog morning until 1030. We ate breakfast at Gastons, and watched alot of planes come in and out. Sure was bussy place. We left at 1230 and headed to Springfield Mo to see a dear friend for a few hr. We arrived home at 430 and I made a landing that would have a grade of a+ Cloyd would have been impressed. I thought he might have been watching but I looked all over and didnt see him. We dont have any trees near our airport!!! J THANKS FOR ALL THE WORK YOU DID TO MAKE LAST WK END HAPPEN I HAD A GREAT TIME. RON POWELL oh I SENT MY DINNER TICKET TO CLOYD WITH A RETURN ADDRESSED ENVELOPE ,SOMEONE SAID THE BEST LANDING GOT A FREE MEAL!!!!!!!!!
