BACFest 2015 Recap post your story here

cool!

After I just changed my states crayon map, the site has retro-actively changed it on my previous posts. Wow .... the wonders of those electrons.

8 down, 42 to go ....

I am thinking of having a webinar Imeet discussion to review some of the decisions that we all made dealing with the weather to/from Dubuque. I know some of us came through challenging conditions, some had decided their weather was not flyable, others took extra days to safely journey home. I think that whichever category we each settled into the decision making process would be the basis for an excellent learning discussion. I will not make this a "wings approved" event and will ask that it not be recorded so that all of us can freely discuss what we did and not worry so much about second guessers.
Anyone interested in this is I set it up for next Tuesday? Anyone feel like talking about their decisions?

DO IT! I left a perfectly capable IFR airplane in the hangar because I've been too lazy to renew my rating. Well, that ended Monday, did 1.5 with my instructor and more to follow this weekend. Would I have flown in the soup if I was current? I'd like to know the stories.

I'd like to hear more about the adventures some of us had getting home. At least we all made it safely...

Cool. Rap, I will put you down for talking about your recurrent training plan and why you decided not to fly. I might even talk about how JP and I ended up Flying together!

Start a new thread, and lets be talking Tues. I thought about scud running......for about 10 seconds. We drove from ALX to Evansville IN before we saw broken clouds. I did the right thing for me.

I'd love to participate! Although our ride home via Rapid City and Kansas City was much more laid back I still had two issues to deal with.

This would be a great iMeet session! I had at least 4 decision points on the way home, mostly due to my facts (VFR, wx, daylight, etc.) but I sure would have appreciated having been through such a seminar before hand to "pre-ratify" my decision making!

Is there a BAC prize for the most hotel rooms and rental cars on the trip home?

;)
Rapid City - hotel and car
Kansas City - car
Mt. Sterling KY - hotel and crew truck Hummer 3

I know one thing when we cleared the Baltimore Bravo and cloud layer Mary and I were thrilled to see the Ocean City Skyline. :D Landing at home was just a bit sweeter after being away for so long.

There is a BAC prize .Everybody weighted out their options and arrived there and home safe .Nobody was pressured or given a hard time for not flying .Some drove in excess of 20 hours to be in Dubuque for our get together .Now ,we are getting together via IMEET to do a Post flight /drive review . I would say it sounds like we all stayed at a Holiday Inn Express . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Ah8WTL2i8 As for a prize Michael ,I will get with new BAC member Wayne Matthews from Sew Busy and see if he can embroider a Hotel type robe :)

My trip home wasn't near as adventurous as some of you all had experienced. Wanted to fly up but had alternator issues along with some bad weather. Like Rap I'm woefully noncurrent for IFR and decided that it was more prudent to drive up instead...never mind the mechanical issues that I had with the aircraft. We took two leisurely days to drive up and wasn't an issue since I drive a lot with my part-time job of delivering RVs and travel trailers. And that's exactly what I did for my drive home. I picked up a 28 foot class C from Chicago and drove it to Elkhart Indiana. From there I picked another one up which took me to about an hour from my house...worked out perfectly. Moreover those two trips more than paid for this BACfest...i'm loving it! It sure was great seeing everyone again and also meeting new people which is always a lot of fun! Outstanding event...great times and I'm glad everybody made it to and from safely.
