BACFest 2010!

Hope Mark hasn't lost his sense of humor.

Still haven't found a hobby Cloyd?

Gee, I give you guys a working chat box and still you're whining. Actually it's the time more than money right now...all I can say is count the number of members that have made all of every BACFest one way or another, it's a pretty short list :-).

Hey All

Well, BACFest is in my back yard this year but unfortunately I don't have my license yet and I don't think I'll have it by October 7th. I could work out a deal with my flight instructor (that could cost a bunch) or maybe she might sign me off to solo to KSSF, I'm not sure yet. Another option I guess would be to find a BAC member (insurance qualified pilot) who could/would fly with me? I sure would like to fly my Texas Beech to San Antonio this year. Or I just might jump on a big silver tube and cruise on down. Maybe I'll have something figured out in a week or two.

Hey Scott,
I looked at your profile to see where you are. Where the heck is Flower Mound, Texas? I bet there is a member near by!

Scott, nobody says you have to fly to BACFest. There's a long tradition of using planes, trains and automobiles to get to BACFest, possibly started by yours truely on BACFest #1. Come on down!!!

Actually, Mark, I think the tradition was started by Steve Cote at BAC East I the year before the first BAC Fest.

I'm not sure if he hasn't continued the tradition, at least some years, like Santa Clara where many of us joined in the tradition.

Linderman was traditional at Myrtle Beach.

The short list has ten names on it. These are the members who have attended all four previous BACFests:

Steve Cote
Mark Gooderum
Dan Kirby
Rick Koch
Chris Linderman
Brad Mitchell
Mike Murphy
Doug Muse
Mike Rellihan
Bob Schmidt

A total of 96 members have attended at least one BACFest.

I can't make Texas this year so my vote would be something like 4N1(NJ) next year. Next year I am hoping BACfest is going to be somewhere near New England? ken

OK, I'm seriously considering a flight to BACFest and wondering if I should go to KSAT or KSSF. I'm not scared of the big iron, but with little need for a car, why go to the bigger airport. I would be in late afternoon as it will be a long flight from Chino, CA. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Bob,
Fly into KSSF. They are the host FBO and will park all of our planes together, among other things.

To all,
We currently have only 18 rooms reserved and the hotel is wanting to cancel the remaining reservations. Let's get busy gang.

Bo and Sandra:

I appreicate all the work and effort you went to to organize this years BACfest; unfortunately, Becky and I will be going back to Slovenia on a Mission trip with our church beginning Oct. 8 and return Oct 18. Hopefully we'll be able to make it next year. Y'all have a great time.

To those of you still not reserved at the La Quinta. The reservation block has been closed. You can no longer get the group rate through the central reservations numbers.
However, the sales department will still honor that rate if you go through them:

"Reservations can be made by contacting the sales office at 210-222-9181. Veronica our sales coordinator can make the reservations as well as I can :)"

When you get the sales department, ask for Lisa, Veronica or Zella.

We're set - called and talked to Veronica this morning, pretty easy. Here's a bit of minor irony for Marty who's picking on us for flying commercial :-). We were able to book out of Carlsbad so we're flying commercial out of an airport that's 25 miles closer to the house than where SuperMouse sits - actually not even two miles down the road.

I was all set to fly SuperMouse - but work got busy and the commercial fares came in at too much savings over gas to ignore especially with the convenience out of Carlsbad. Honestly if we didn't have to lug bags we could actually walk to the airport in about 45 minutes. We don't get quite the milage that Mr. V does with his fancy CS prop and his fancy retractable gear (although my last official prop overhaul a couple of years ago cost me about $350...can't do that with a CS).

Latest notes,

A large event has been scheduled in San Antonio for the same weekend as our BACFest! Sarah Palin and some group are holding a 3 day meeting at the Alamodome. I bring this up because it will soak up rooms and rental cars that weekend. If you haven't made your reservations yet, DO SO IMMEDIATELY, or you may be sleeping under the overpass.

Those of you who will be flying into Stinson and renting cars, make the reservations through San Antonio Aviation (our host FBO) that will insure that the car is staged at Stinson for your arrival.

Bo,
When calling today to make hotel reservations at LaQ I found that all blocked rooms had been taken. Will you be able to get any more rooms at the discounted price before September 30.
Thanks,
Edward Gorman
