BAC to Gastons 2012 (3M0)

So that video of the takeoff you sent me labeled 2005 should have been 2004. That figures. I think I didn't make it in 2005 because I was just getting back from my Katrina evacuation. I see Manhein in the 2006 photo. On the way back home in 2006 is when I got my brand new instrument ticket wet.

I still have to take a really detailed look at the weather, but unless the clouds loop around behind the front, it may all clear out in time for a good flying day on Saturday. Reckon that this is the same system that may really hammer the NE region fly in (lancaster, I think it is)?

Got here about 5 minutes after the cold front arrived and about 30 minutes prior to a small rain shower. The winds were tricky the last 5 minutes of the flight, but once I got down on short final it was a little better. A beautiful place and looking forward to a mini vactaion.
 
Way to go Randy! I hope that the forecast rain doesn't wash out your fishing trip tomorrow. This wasn't your first time landing on grass was it? (just an unofficial poll).

Normally for Gaston's I would be up Friday Evening, but his year I can't get there until Saturday. I'll leave out of there as early as possible Saturday morning and see you after about an hour flight. Here's hoping for severe clear on Saturday. If Saturday is good, they might as well call it Gaston's International. It gets that busy.
 
The line of yellow and red between 3M0 and me isn't looking promising right now. If it doesn't break up early tomorrow, I probably won't make it. What is it with BAC fly-ins and weather? Cote didn't say he was coming, did he?
 
JW, it was not my first grass field; we have hard surface and grass at my home base KFZG. I land on the grass at home every now and then just for fun and I have landed on grass several times even a crop dusters field twice before. Our grass is very good, but this is about the best one I have ever landed on. It rained last night, this morning it was overcast and very cold; Mid morning it was broken and by lunch it was severe clear on the river. Windy and chilly right now, but severe clear here at Gaston’s. Fly fishing was absolutely remarkable on the Norfolk river today (not a Gaston’s). My only advice to anyone that has never landed at Gaston's is to watch all YouTube video's they can watch. I did and it really made a big difference in my arrival, especially with the conditions caving in as I arrived. My Sundowner is very lonely out on the ramp and needs some Beech friends to join us so come on up and let’s have some fun.

Great to hear the fishing was good. I'll be out of here in the morning as soon as practicable (wonder if that is a real word,or just something that the FAA made up).

If Brad is not there by now, I'm going to guess that he cancelled. Brad?
 
Yes, weather did me in. The front stalled as it moved through Kentucky and the band of heavy rain stretched just about the width of the state. 30 degree swing in temperature from yesterday to today. Looks like I'll have to wait and try again next year!
 
Was hoping to make it to Gaston's this weekend but not going to happen, Plane is just a few man hours away from flying. But i am not going to take it directly out of maint and fly it 200 miles on its first flight.

That is fine with me. There are a couple of fun destinations about half way, Gaston's and Lambert's in sikeston. If you know any others say between Okie city to nashville let me know. All the 63's are going to turn 50 next year so maybe a few others would be interested in a 50 year old plane flyin.
 
Steve, doing an advanced search for Model 23s turns up 32. Maybe we could attract a crowd. We should also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mouse next year at BAC Fest.

We could even have a toast to those Mice that have "gone west."

Sometimes we run out of things to toast at BAC Fest.

The whole day was off a bit for Gaston's, as we were the only planes moving on a bright, clear saturday. Any more clear and there might have been a notam for sunscreen, but there was some crazy gusts going on from treetop high to about 3000, that probably kept most people home. I know I heard some automated stations calling 14k-21k and I think that the preflight briefer metioned gust to 25 when I talked to her this morning. But it was enjoyable.

John, the line guy was an A&P and he looked at my intercom. After we unplugged the back headsets, no more problem. Good and clear sound all the way home.

Enjoyed meeting up with John Redmond again as well as meeting Randy Martin, new Sierra owners Shane Howeth and Brandon Smallwood. Lets do it again next year.

Cloyd, John volunteered to update the PT, but I'll be sending you and Gene the rest of the 'paper' work..., wish you could have made it. Maybe next time, Annie won't be having her sea legs removed.
