Next question...anyone besides Mike Hagan get to stand still in the winds through those passes? Sure tossed the B757 around until FL370!

LeeAnne and I took the northern route due to the winds in southern CA on Monday. We made it as far as Sacremento then decided the headwinds along the route to Salt Lake and forecast for turbulence around the Sierra Mtns. were not for us. We spend the night there and flew on home Tuesday morning. No winds or bumps.....or fires!

If you were on the right side of the aircraft from SMX to LAX the fires would have been on the other side. Same goes for LAX to ORD.

I saw them from the jump seat of a 757 on my flight from SFO to DFW on Monday. We went south to Palmdale (PMD) and then over to DFW. Some bumps, but not bad at FL390.

If you were on the right side you may have noticed water out there. That would have been the Pacific Ocean. Oceans generally don't burn unless somebody spilled fuel on them. And that's called pollution.
