BAC Fest 2008 a HUGE success!!

Just a suggestion for those attending BAC Fest 2008, we are going to have two presentations by local area experts. The first is about aircraft painting by Artcraft. There will be a presentation followed by Q&A and then a tour of their facility to see the process of stripping, cleaning, painting, and their interior shop.

The second presentation is all about avionics and a/c panels by Avionic West also based at KSMX. There will be a presentation followed by Q&A.

Please give these two presentations some thought and come prepared with questions. If we don't get questions, there will be a lot of "dead air" and most likely a disappointing afternoon. Even if you don't plan a panel re-do or avionics upgrade, or a new paint job in the near future, please take advantage of this opportunity...your questions may help others.

I look forward to meeting members I haven't met and seeing others that I have had the pleasure! Travel safely and we'll see ya there!

Some members have wondered about transportation from the Santa Maria commercial terminal to the hotel. The hotel is about 100 yards or so from the commercial terminal so there is no need for a rental car, taxi or local transportation, unless someone is unable to negotiate the distance.

If there is anyone with special needs, let me know. I will have a rental car and I will be happy to come pick you up.

Chris L.

PS-Cloyd, your special needs don't qualify!

Chris,
Is the commercial terminal next to, or near, the hotel?
I'll be in 14:00L tomorrow on an Embraer too small to fit the letters "UNITED" on.

I had figured I would walk over but...

Yeah, the hotel is just a short stroll from the terminal. Go out the terminal hang a right and follow the sidewalk. It is more than 100 yards, but not far at all.

Cloyd can hit the bar in the hotel. which overlooks the ramp and primary runway.

We will be down on Wednesday as early as weather allows.

Well, it looks like our friend, Bill Manheim is probably not going to make it, this year. Our loss if he does not. I sure enjoyed his company and input last year.

There is a line of weather across East Texas and the Central US, with some wind. Hopefully most people are just about there, so this is not a factor.

Results to date:

As of 1800 PDT oct 7.

3 mice on the ramp

Bo & Sandra Boggs and the go everywhere mouse.
Chris Linderman and his Sierra.
Bob Lewis and his Sport.
And the NE Regional Director on foot.

I'm leaving from the Bay Area tomorrow (Wednesday) about 2p-3p. If there is anyone coming in commercial to the Bay Area or even MRY or any last minute attendees I'll have spare seats (exact vehicle type unknown until tomorrow when I see what Avis gives me).

I don't expect to make cocktail hour - TBD is whether I go 101 or take the time to enjoy CA 1 down through Big Sur - it will depend on how early I get going.

My return is Sunday after the clinic but I know of at least one other member heading back north on Saturday.

See you tomorrow evening,

Ann and I leave at 0700 EDT from LEX via Delta thru CVG, SLC and then Santa Barbara. Hertz will provide our chariot to Santa Maria and we should arrive by 3:00 PDT.....that will be well into cocktail hour BAC east.

Brad

I leave Nawlins at 8:36 CDT but don't get to Santa Maria until 6:37 PDT thanks to a 3+ hour layover in Denver and a 2+ hour layover at LAX. Save a cold one for me. Make that two.

Doug,

You're a jerk taking pictures of me and my relatives... that is a private Beach (Beech)! We'll talk about this on Friday! :D

Mike

Sorry Mike... I didn't even get permission at the "nude beach" either... just took the pics and ran...

See ya Friday.

Here are some scenes from my drive down for those who can't make it. Imagine a plane ride along the CA coast. Great views!

A plane ride from Santa Maria to Half Moon Bay is a must for those before heading home.

Doug

I'm flying this route tomorrow AM (N2367L)... any idea on a start time for festivities???

Chris L., if they need a donor airframe to demonstrate proper paint and panel applications, I guess I'll volunteer.

All the events start at 9am in the room next to the pool. Breakfast at 8am in the same room.

Doug

Yep, it's the "Challenger" room. As in shuttle...hopefully not an omen.

(Yeah, that jokes gotten tired at BAC Fest already, so I'm inflicting it on BAC.org. )

Finding the Challenger Room was a challenge, but I made it. AND CHRIS BOUGHT ME A BEER. Brad you're on deck.
