Greetings, Plz hold the date for a pretty cool event coming up Wed, 21Jun for an international gathering of our Canadian friends and BAC NW members. We're meeting around 11AM at S10 Lake Chalan, WA for lunch. We arrive and have arranged transport into town for a lunch and get together. Our friends led by International Director- Jeff Knight will be bringing in up to 20 aircraft friends once after clearing customs. It'll be a day trip and should be very exciting.

I would like to get an RSVP list so as we don't leave anyone behind. I would also appreciate a ride (S50 Auburn, or Crest) as I'm out of the Sundowner business right now. I'm happy to share expenses. Lake Chelan can be a challenging airport. There can be gusty winds and although there is plenty of runway with no obstacles, there is a sheer drop-off on one end that can make you say wow. I've been in and out of there, and am happy to provide a little OE - Operating Experience.

Lastly, a good practice is to check TFRs before you fly in that area as there are usually forest fire being worked somewhere along the route.

Pam & I are going to put it on our calendar. We will be flying up from the Salem, OR area and will probably be spending the night. We're even talking about continuing the flight the next day to the Grand Coulee Dam and taking in the laser light show.

I am a BAC member from Vancouver,BC visit to Penticton, BC on June 25,to do with a Century Flight Club tour?
I'm based in Vancouver and was going to the COPA(Canadian Owners and Pilots) Convention in nearby Kelowna that weekend, was thinking to hop over there and meet some BAC members, if there was an event I could join you at.

i got in touch with Century Flight Club re Penticton on June 21, and they said I could join them for a $100 fee.
I'm trying to get more details, and if it is $100 per person.
I'm not going on their flyouts, I just wanted to meet some BAC members, who aren't very often in Penticton.

Hi Ray,

Come on up to Penticton! We arrive there on 17 June with the rest of the Century Flight Club group from Eastern Canada. There are lots of wine tours, ground events and Fly-outs, including the one down to Lake Chelan on 21 June. Some of the group are carrying on to the COPA convention 23-25 June as well so lots to do overall. Hope to see you either in Penticton or Lake Chelan.

For the one-day, 21Jun Lake Chelan lunch event, no fee. BAC will cover you and your guest lunch. We are invited guest.

If they are doing other things or events, that is up to them. Sorry, no details here.

Hi Ray,

I think there was some confusion. The Century Flight Club is a Canadian Group of which I'm also a member. I'm their Alberta Director and I look after their flight planning, routing and cross Canada logistics. The group consists of pilots of all types and experience and aircraft of all makes and models, some of whom are also BAC members and Baby Beech drivers. We annually plan a destination in Canada and go there for a week, conducting fly-outs to various local points of interest, conducting aviation seminars, doing ground tours and of course networking as pilots and aircraft owners. Over the last couple of years we have tried to include one fly-out to a destination in the USA so that our members become familiar with cross border flying and use a controlled crossing as the stepping stone to more flights south of our border on their own.

Because I'm also the International Director in the Beech Aero Club, for the past number of years I have been registering the Century Flight Club trip as a BAC International event so that those members of the CFC who are also members of BAC can log their trip for President's Cup points. There are not many opportunities for us International members, short of flying to BACFest every year to actually participate in PC point events. This year, because our cross border fly-out was to Lake Chelan, Washington, I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring our clubs together in a CFC/BAC combined "Hands Across the Border" lunch event. Basically, the Century Flight Club have invited any NW Regional and International (Western Canada?) BAC members to meet us in Lake Chelan, Washington (S10) on 21 June 2017 for lunch and socializing between our clubs. Because this is also a BAC event, the NW Regional Director and the International Director will cover the cost of lunch for their respective BAC members.
So, we hope to see you in Penticton with the CFC if you choose to do that trip or to meet you in Lake Chelan with the BAC if you decide that is a better option for you. Either way it will be nice to meet another Canadian BAC member that I didn't know about. Welcome.
 
Anyone else considering going to S10? I'm still BabyBeech-less, and don't intend to drive the 5 hours across the rock pile although its a spectacular view. I'm happy to share expenses. I'm out of Auburn S50 or even Crest would work.

Pam & I will be there. We are taking this opportunity to get in a mini vacation. We are planning a couple nights in Lake Chelan, got to do the "Lady of the Lake" boat ride. Off to Electric City Friday AM. Being that far north we have to view the Laser Light Show at Grand Coulee Dam. It looks like the weather is going to be perfect. We might be the only ones there but we will manage! Ken
 
Hi Ken, our International Director - Alan Knight will be there as he is heading up the Canadian group. So far, no one is coming out of Seattle (that I know of), so I don't have a ride. Its unusual but it is during the week. Hopefully, someone will send me a note they are coming.

Regardless, you should have a great time. I wish I was coming but nothing ...right now.

I went to the BAC / Century Club Fly-In in Lake Chelan, WA (S10) this last week. Beautiful "severe clear" weather all weekend! Century Club is a aero club based in Canada but not a specific aircraft type club. Their yearly fly out event was just north in B.C. Canada. Lake Chelan is 70 miles south of the US border. Six planes flew down from BC, including a Beaver on floats, to Lake Chelan for their daily excursion which was border crossing lesson. The event was not well attended as they had just lost one plane the day before, a Piper 140. The plane was totaled on landing. No fatalities although the pilot is in the hospital with very serious injuries. I got to meet Jeff Knight our BAC International Director who is also a member of the Century Flight Club. Jeff flew down in his Sport. Had a great time meeting everyone. Thanks for lunch Jeff!

Sorry I couldn't make the trip but I didn't have anyone flying over from the Seattle area. As I needed a ride. Either way, you get the BAC points.

I'm finally home from the great adventure! Just a quick update and then pictures to follow. We did have a successful "Hands Across the Border" event on 21 June 2017, with six aircraft attending from the Century Flight Club and two attending from BAC (actually three Baby Beeches on the field). Ken and Pam Hardwick, Sundowner N9229S met us on the field when the famous Tex-MEX AKA Jeff Knight arrived with his motley crew from Canada. Sundowner N2380W was also tied down on the field, but the owners where not in attendance at the event. They did receive an International Director business card stuck in the door prior to departure though so they'll know what a great event they missed. As Ken mentioned our group consisted of a number of different aircraft including my Beech Sport, an LSA out of Friday Harbour, WA, a beaver on floats, a Mooney, a 182 and a 206. Your International Director led the charge and everyone landed safe and sound. A quick refresher on the difference between a Unicom freq 122.95 and the CTAF freq 122.9 had everyone singing from the same song sheet for the departure. Introductions were made all around and Jeff presented a short history of the Century Flight Club and the nature of this BAC event to the group. After a short logistical pause our transportation to downtown arrived in the form of Tony and his Swiss army truck! Everybody piled in the back and downtown we went to Campbell's Resort for lunch. The lunch was good and the conversation was lively as we all compared notes on our various airplanes and discussed the similarities and differences of flying in the USA and Canada. Promptly on time, Tony reappeared with his army truck to take us all back to the airport. We can all now scratch riding in the back of an army truck off our bucket lists! After a bit more chit chat, the Canadians took to the air on their return to Penticton with Tex-MEX bringing up the rear, leaving only US nationals, new friends and great memories behind. With a final compliment from Ken on my departure, my Sport and I disappeared over the horizon completing a very successful first inter-club event between the Century Flight Club and the Beech Aero Club. Next year's CFC flying trip is planned to Oshkosh, so I am hopeful that we can again share "Hands Across the Border" at the Mecca. Thanks to Ken and Pam for attending this event and making us all feel so welcome. I hope the rest of your trip was equally successful. Blue skies my friends.

Update: While I can't discuss the details of the accident as it remains an open investigation, I can tell you that both pilots on board are OK and in fact have both been back in the air since the accident. We are all very thankful for the miracle that allowed them to remain with us and wish a speedy recovery for them both. This accident was NOT associated with the BAC "Hands Across the Border" event in any way.
