BACFest 2024

My Hotel is booked as well.
Cause I have my Harley parked in L.A., my plan would be to fly into LAX and ride up to Oregon for BACFest. Anybody interested to join me for the ride? JP??
Avoiding Interstates, preferring the smaller scenic highways: https://maps.app.goo.gl/1TwKvwiXLvm2Go338
Peter - that route passes near to where I live in Nevada. I will have to PM you my contact information and meet you for lunch perhaps. (but I will also be at BAC Fest too.) Your entire route through Nevada and California I know very well.

Good plan, thanks Doug! I'm open for suggestions which road to take...

I'll PM you my contact info and maybe one or two suggestions for route changes. Guess there are a few roads you selected in Southern California I am not familiar with....but many that I have traveled! Brings back memories of when I lived and worked in LA.

Denis and Kathryn have the motel booked and have registered. We are planning on flying the Sierra there and really looking forward to it.
Thanks John for all the hard work. You have a great agenda lined up.

I had the hotel registration done, now I have the BAC registration done. Put in arriving 9/18 and leaving 9/22 but we still don't know if we're heading up early or staying later. John has a great event set up for us all!

I finished the hotel reservation some time ago. I just finished the BAC registration. Arriving by car on 9/17 later in the day. Departing on 9/22 whenever the fun starts to wane. I will have seats in whichever car I bring if that helps get people around. Very small chance I would fly in commercial, but if so, I will have a rental car. I'm looking forward to seeing all.

In the midst of all else (bar flying much) BAC Registration completed today. Next task for us is to see what interest exists in a visit to the Nicolas-Jay Winery in the Willamette Valley on either the 17th or 24th of September. The Winery will be in the midst of harvest but, wishing to keep my UK Wine-merchant on side, they have offered me a VIP tour/visit. The Winery lies about 20 SW of Portland, so is en-route for those travelling to/from SEA-TAC. It's about half-way as best I can tell. This should be seen as an opportunity additional to the full and fun programme that John has put together for us at BACFEST 2024 so, as not to add to his organisational burden, please PM me and we will determine the level of interest and choose the date as best suits the majority. Ruth and I will visit regardless so it will happen on one of those 2 dates.

Jerry our plans are to be in the area in the days before BAC Fest, so if you get more folks wanting to do before we'll be interested, thanks!

A true Fly-in isn’t complete without a pancake breakfast! So this year before everyone departs, with help from Jack & Robin Becker, and Doug & Marlene Faucette, we will be serving up the traditional Fly-in breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit and juice for breakfast at the Waypoint Hotel Sunday morning as a final farewell to all until BACFest 2025!

See you there!Pancakes.jpg

A Flying Sportscar?

That is what has been developing in the High Desert of Central Oregon for the past 14 years! I spoke with the developer and CEO Sam Bousfield of Samson Sky, a company who has designed and last November, 2023, flown a prototype of the “Switchblade”, a three wheeled, street legal vehicle that you drive from your garage to the airport. Once there, the wings swing out and the tail extends in under 3 minutes. Sam has agreed to open up their R&D and assembly facility in Prineville OR. (S39) (about 40 minute drive from our hotel) for a tour and questions during BACFest 2024. Not only will the flying prototype be on display, but they have redesigned a new body shape which they will show us as well.

Is this the future? Who knows…. But this is certainly fascinatingly new, radical technology that we have an opportunity to see!
