BACFest 2014 Kudos

Flight Levels
I returned home a few hours ago from another great annual fly-in, commonly referred to as BACFest. This was the ninth edition and for all of those that were there, it was a top notch event! Congratulations and thanks are in order for so many people (apologies to those I fail to mention). First, thanks to Jon Krane for having picked up the gauntlet tossed his way a year ago and mapping out a plan to bring BACFest to the Pacific Northwest. Not many options were available, but Jon assumed the task and delivered the plan. And a huge thanks to John Persinger, who pulled together many of the elements and added the finer detail that made this year special. I'm sure they told you that was part of your duties when you assumed the Secretary/Treasurer position! Thanks to Tom Corcoran and Bob Prange who shuttled folks back and forth between airports and the hotel. Thanks to all of the board members from Rap on down who voted to approve the funding for this year's event. And thanks to all of the attendees who took time and money from their busy schedules to make it to Portland this year. Without you, there is no event! And the final kudo goes to Denis Weiser who assumed the leadership role for planning BACFest 2015 in Dubuque, IA. Mark your calendars now, October 1-4, 2015. Safe travels home for all.

Brad

Thanks Brad for all your help and advice. I think about Portland now and a big smile comes to my face. I can't wait till the pictures start getting posted. Those that couldn't make it were missed also. Last night when the ship started swaying in the dark and I went to the helm to see a couple children steering the ship with the assistance of the Captain I thought how special the night was.

Seeing the airline ticket agent @430 am give Scic*&e (aka deleted post) a hairy eyeball when he went to the wrong counter and yelled see you later Sweetheart . ( He was goofing on me and she thought it was her) :) Thanks for dropping us off this morning Bob and thanks to everyone for making our club the greatest !!!!

A good time was had by all! Thank you Jon C and John P for all your time and efforts. Thank you Gene Nora for sharing your stories. Most of all, thanks to the attendees and families. BACFest could be held in a desert, and it would still be a great event because of our members.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments! I'm glad that those who made it out had a great time, as you all know I had a lot of help and I am very appreciative, thank you again John P., Norris and Vivianne (Aircraft and Marine - Beech Blanket), Laureano M. and Fort Vancouver Trust people (Ashley K.), Gene Nora and Bob, Joel K., Bob P., Tom C., Bill S., Marty V., Brad M and all those who came out to join us!

We will have pictures posted within the next week.

Thanks all for an excellent BacFest14. The fam really enjoyed the event.

James, You have a lovely family! I personally saw the young girl piloting the boat and took a picture as well. I was very moved by the captain giving her the opportunity to have such a unique experience. I was also happy to get to stand in a pilot house and see how a captain navigated the river at night. He was shining his spotlight on buoys and the banks, occasionally looking through his binoculars to see better, and using his radar. He could even see the very small buoys in the river with the radar. Add this to the experience of riding on a boat near the Portland skyline and all I can say is Wow!

Charlotte and I made it home at 2AM Monday. Great time with a bunch of BACers. Thanks to Jon Krane for stepping up, John Persinger (member of the year) for all his efforts. Special thanks to Marty Vanover and Bill Sciscoe for helping with the maintenance session, Gene Nora Jessen for her keynote, all the ad hoc volunteers who drove, worked behind the scenes and made things happen. Good job, y'all.

Hopefully everyone made it home safely from another fantastic BACFest. There were some real memorable experiences, sitting in the pilots seat of the Spruce Goose, the Harrier/fire works at the air show, and diner on the boat. The best of all is seeing old friends and meeting new ones that are all excited to talk about our line of baby beech's. This event is another bargain from belonging to this club. Thanks to everyone in the northwest region and the board for making it possible.

Arrruuggg! I inadvertently deleted all my BAC Fest photos! I had a few good ones. Thanks Jack for posting the picks.

well, at least the rest of us know (for sure now) what topic siscoe covered during his part of the clinic...

Speaking of the BACFest maintenance clinic.

Will there be a video of it available either on the website or on CD?

I took videos of most of the maintenance clinic, but it was informal with people walking in front of the camera or saying expletives near the mic. I can burn a raw copy, but it would be better if someone edited it. I was told Jay Bruce might be willing to do it. Jay? Whoever does edit it will have to make the decision if it is good enough quality or not. I also took video of Gene Nora's talk, but just as it was starting, someone turned the lights out so they could see her power point slides better. So the video is poor and very dark Also she did not use a mic so I will have to see if the audio came out or not. I was sitting about ten feet from her so I am hopeful.

I also took some video of the clinic. Haven't looked at it yet but there should be some useful footage (gigabytage?)

There was a lot of useful information discussed so I hope we can get a decent DVD produced.
