Alaska 2024

Greg, it is definitely still on my list.  I started at a part 147 school last fall to get my A&P certificate and I have year and half to finish.  It is year around schedule, so my next opening to go to Alaska is 2024.  I am definitely going in 2024.  Hopefully there will be other BAC members that can go as well.

I too would love to fly up to Alaska... that would be a great trip... But it will be at least next year before I can even consider it...

and A2324pilot good luck on getting your A&P... It can be an interesting job... To start off you will get many less desirable assignments, but that is just how it goes... Be cautious of this industry... They can be real pranksters. (Sky Hooks, Bucket of Prop Wash(2 Blade, 3 Blade, or 4 Blade), Left Handed Monkey Wrench).... The industry has served me well, and I plan too exit it for retirement in  about 4 years... There is a lot of Book work, and Practical work, and when you finish your training... Well you never finish your training... it is a License to learn... Over the past 40 years, I have a note book about 2 inches thick of training certificates... Best of luck to you with getting your license and if you need any advise or help, please contact me.

Denis and Greg and others,

I would be supportive of an Alaska 2023 "recon" trip, in April or May.  My idea would be to enjoy about a 4 or 5 day adventure, completing only the first portion of the trip (Dawson Creek? Fort Nelson?) and enjoying a portion of the Alcan Highway.  This would help build a level of comfort before our serious multi-week trip up to Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Kenai to visit my neighbors and friends.

Thanks for the encouragement.  Since I am already retired I am not sure how much real work I am going to do, but for now I am enjoying the journey to get the certificate.

Hmmm....Alaska 2024?  Certainly could be on my "ToDo" list.  Been to the "Skag" but never crossed the border. Have done the Yukon a few times and considering you would be coming through my BAC door on your way north, anything is possible.  A true international BAC Fly-out would be a cool trip. Let's keep this one alive.

I certainly think that would be a fun one to do... and LOL, would be a good way for many of us to ad another state.. Jeff, good idea to start a new post.  I am all in for 2024.  They will have to close the border again to stop me.

2024 - That will be just about perfect timing... count me in on it for now.. I would love to fly up there, and a Group fly would be great... I have done the mapping, but I wonder if we could top off in Northern Washington State and fly Direct without landing in Canada.. I personally do not have a Passport, but I can certainly get one.

I like the 2024 idea and I like the 2023 recon idea.  Nelson where are the places you name?  BC?

Yes, both Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson are in British Columbia, Canada.

The problem with the costal route is weather.  Warm water and cold air creates fog and it happens very quickly.  That is why the US army ferried aircraft to Alaska and Russia following the Alaskan highway during WWII.

Sounds like getting a Passport may not be a bad idea! With my work changes pending, I may have to get one due to promotion anyway!
