Across the USA-flight relay

Hello Jeff,

We had plans to meet at Pat's home base on April 14.  Plans were cancelled due to low ceilings and 37kts winds on the ground.  Weather and conflicting schedules (damn work) are killers.  If there is anyone between KPEO and I43 that wants to move the bear a few miles closer,  let us know.

I am now based at KVES, Versailles Ohio. With a new engine, I need some long XC time, so I'm happy to help move the bear around Ohio or from Ohio to an Indiana or western Kentucky location.

Available most anytime in the near future.

After a 6.3 hour roundtrip flight (with detour to fly over Niagara Falls) the Bear has been successfully transferred from Canadaigua, NY to Jackson, Ohio.  Pat Long was not available but his wife was kind enough to deliver the Bear to the airport.  I enjoyed meeting Nancy and their dog Piper.   Nancy, thank you for your advice on flying over Niagara Falls, we did it without a hitch.  Hope to meet you and Pat together sometime soon.

Now, who is up next to get the Bear from me?  I am at I43.

Hi Joe, I'd love to meet up and help the Bear continue its quest! I'm in western Ohio based at KVES. I'm available most anytime, VFR only. Is anyone still keeping the map up to date? What direction does the Bear need to travel next?

The Northeast Region's collective consciences are clear!

The BAC Relay Bear made it safely to each of the nine Northeast Region states and has safely been passed west.

It's not easy to make the logistics work connecting pilots/planes/airports/work/family. But Northeast did it and we look forward to announcements from our BAC brethren that the bear has moved on.

Thanks to all for participating in this time consuming, fuel burning, only-for-fun undertaking.

The BAC Bear needs to move west!

Reminds me of my airline hat.  We were not "required" to wear one and I left it on the aircraft many times.  It always made it back to me as my name was inside.  My hat managed to get around just fine without me.

I can't help with flying the BAC Bear around as it would violate the rules of using club aircraft.  But I would be more than happy to host anyone flying the BAC Bear through KAPC airport to breakfast, lunch or dinner at the local Black Bear Diner.  The bear can come too.  He doesn't eat much.

Before it goes west, it needs to head into WV. Joe, could you possibly just take it on a short trip to WV before handing it off? It needs to go to KY too!

West Virginia BAC fly in is this weekend. Seems like an opportunity,

Dang, I missed the Morgantown fly-in.  I was taking the bear to John Redmon at the KTZR fly-in today but we decided I would keep it (John has a picture with the bear).  It seems like we are missing W.Va. and Ky and Delaware. I am within 15 min. from Ky. and W.Va.  Is there anyone that may want to meet to check any of these 3 states off the list.  Or, will it count if I land at Mason, W.Va and then Ashland, Ky with it then back to Ohio?

My Opinion would be Land, take a picture each and go to the next... Enjoy the Trips...

I agree, just land. We never said it had to change hands, just traveling all the states is going to be a cool accomplishment.

As Joe mentioned, we discussed over lunch at JP's Barbecue Bolton Field that West Virgina and Kentucky have not been visited yet.  It was decided the BAC Bear would stay with him.  Since West Virgina and Kentucky are very close to his home base airport.  He would take care of completing those states before handing it off to me.  I will try and schedule a fly-in around the hand-off if possible.

John Redmon with the BAC Bear.  See you at the next fly-in if not before.

I have now checked off the states of New York, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, including an island vacation to Put In Bay.  The BAC Bear has gone from KIUA (NY) to I43(OH) and KTZR (OH), 3W2 (OH), KDWU (KY) and I18 (WVa).  Who gets her next, John in Indiana?

Okay I'll take it from Arlington Texas to Houston if you need it for a ride.  Or maybe to Oklahoma have yet to be there either. Just give me an idea as to when or where,, take the little ragamuffins I am sure it won't be bothering me.

@joekirby - Very cool! Lots of stops.

I put pins in the map but I need a little help understanding the order of the legs since Put-in-bay. Can you take a look at the legend on the left side of the map and see if I have the stops in order, please? If so, I'll add the lines for the legs.
