The legend of Butter Valley 7N8 - STOL - well sort of...

Hi Folks,

RE: PA 7N8

Just recently someone mentioned Butter Valley to me in passing... I'm not sure if it's true but he mentioned it was the only golf course in the country with a runway down the center of it ??? Well - I'm not really into golf - but - after searching YouTube - seems to be an airport I'd like to visit... The food is supposed to be decent... While 1535x24 paved sounds like a challenge - it does have the grass portion extending it to 2420x85.... Sounds like the perfect place to test your short field performance - with a safety net - just in case...

I plan on a visit in the near future and have been looking for an excuse for an early morning launch. Would anyone be interested in an early bird special for breakfast - say between - 07:00 and 08:00 some weekend morning in the relatively near future ???

If so - let's just throw some dates out there and lets see what happens...

Regards,
Scott

Scott, the Spruce Creek fly-in community in Daytona does not have a runway running down the middle of it, but it does (did?) have a sign on it that golfers are responsible for any damage to aircraft and persons landing on the front of the 18th tee. I kind of thought it was BS until I teed off and missed a Bonanza by inches because you could not see, or really hear, it over the trees right of the fairway on short final. Long runway though. I would give yours a whirl, but only if the winds favored the longer route.

Looks like fun. Seems to be filmed from some sort of cessna (152 or 172)? The grab handle looked right, but can't say as I recall a flip door on the left on those... Any takers for help guess that type?

Scott, when you find you have an excuse for flying near Arkansas, holler. We will find somewhere cool to try out.

Hi James,

Hmmm - flying golf balls - didn't consider that hazard...
:)

Hi JB,

Sounds like a plan - haven't been down to Arkansas since I was a kid... My parents rented one of those pontoon boats on Lake Ouchita where they strap your RV to the deck –and – we spent a week cruising the lake... It still rates as one of the best family vacations we ever had... I'd like to start ranging a bit further to see some more of the country by air - 90% of my flying is just day trips… If I am able to manage a trip to your area – I’ll certainly holl’r…

Hi Gary,

Sounds good - sir… I’m going to Oswego this weekend – how’s the weekend of August 18[SUP]th[/SUP] sound ???

Regards,
Scott

New definition of "hazard" on a golf course. Imagine the damage to the ball with a prop stike, and the resulting lie (if you find it miles away) and the cost to fix the prop! Glad I played there as a youth, before I became a pilot. Easy Tom, your opinion doesn't count, government says I am a pilot (I told you I owe you comebacks).

My 18th is penciled in for Cape May NJ - AOPA NE Fly-In- Take 2 August 18th, meet up around 10am.

I'll follow this thread and watch for the date, I hope I can catch up.
