Sun 'n Fun 2013

Usually JPI has some good deals at the show. Probably EI also.
I am planning a few Bahamas days before Sun n Fun, anyone else?

I'll be there Wed. I have ordered a new Concorde battery and RAPCO vacuum pump with special pricing from Wilco Aircraft Parts. Just talked to them yesterday. I'm also a member of the BeechTalk website (free) and they gave me some discounts for mentioning BeechTalk.

I have contacted several restaurants in Lakeland and Plant City, FL trying to secure a location that would take reservations for dinner during Sun n Fun for a group. I was unsuccessful.

So, if anyone is interested in a group dinner Thursday night at approximately 6:30 I will do a "call ahead" for that day. It may or may not get us seated in the same general area. It will most likely be a long wait.

I need a count by April 4, 2013. Please notify me.

I did not send out a group email, so if you know of someone that may be interested that does not use the website, please pass this info to them.

Also, we could meet at the AOPA tent by the sweepstakes airplane at 2pm everyday of the event to meet other members.

All suggestions welcome.
Thank you,

For whatever past history is worth..... we have had good luck with Bonefish grill being willing to save a large table. Maybe since in the past we have reliably shown up they will again?
Thursday works for me.

Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ed tried his best at the Bonefish Grill. Two years ago, after waiting for a LONG time we did get seated with a promise it would not happen the next year. It did not, we waited from 6:30-7:00 until after 9pm to be seated. At least 10 people left (probably more). So to be honest I did not call them. I wish we had a different experience, but that was mine and I do not think any of those still there were very happy either.

Two years ago was the tornado and they were one of the few places with electricity so it was somewhat understandable. Last year however was way worse with no reason. Both times I had booked this with the manager a month ahead of time. Food was great. It's also a little too loud when BAC members are wanting to talk and get to know each other.

Well I guess everything changes over time. Too bad since it used to be good. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

For anyone coming in, the cheapest fuel around is either x23 (Umatilla) or x04 (Orlando Apopka) at $4.70 currently. Anyone who would like to stop over at KORL, I can arrange for tie down space on the East ramp. By the time of Sun N Fun (if nothing changes) KISM (Kissimmee) may be totally closed because the tower is closing as a result of the sequester. It lies in or very near the Orlando Class B and the current discussion (threat) is that they are going to shut the whole airport down. I suggest that you either plan around it or double check at the last minute. Almost every small GA airport in Florida is losing its tower. Not too big a deal except KORL where it will soon rain hamburger because of the corporate jets who will talk to KMCO for clearance and land without ever announcing anything on CTAF.

EI was offering $300 off the -16 engine monitor at the Northwest Aviation tradeshow. Bottom line price around $915 for the 4 cyl model. I'm sure they will do a similar deal at SNF.

I know it is a bit early and that weather plays a critical role in ultimate attendance, but how many members think there is a better than 50-50 chance they will make it? It would be great to meet at the old tree where Mike R. held court and offer a toast to the master! So, who's in....at least think they will be?

Looks like KORL and KISM survived FAA closures. Not KLAL though. I was at Gulf Coast Avionics today and they had no clue what would happen for sun n fun. However, because they have so many extra "volunteer" ATC controllers, I am guessing there will be no impact. Stay informed though

THE FEDS ARE COMING!
THE FEDS ARE COMING!

SUN ‘n FUN 2013 will take off as scheduled with official, certified FAA Air Traffic Controllers insuring safe and expeditious handling of all arrivals and departures at Lakeland Linder Airport, April 8-15. Contrary to popular belief, the issues in Washington, D.C. will not deter the aviation community from coming together to share the thrills and excitement of the 39th Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In & Expo. We thank our sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, volunteers, benefactors, airshow performers and guests for their continuing support.

It is going to be a great year!

I want to remind everyone, that if you are planning on attending Sun n Fun, and want to have a group dinner on Thursday evening, April 11, 2013 I need you to e-mail me ([email protected]) or PM me.
Restaurants will not take reservations!! The other days of the week, I suggest we meet at the AOPA Sweepstakes Airplane at 2 PM each day. It is easy to find and close to food and drink.
Thanks,
