BACFest 2015 Arrival Info

I think there are about 34 or so here. That is not official. 25 made it to Able Island. I think flying into Able Island gave most of us anxiety attacks. There were 50 ft. or so tall trees and houses at the approach end of the runway. Stiff cross wind that quit once we got below tree level. I bounced pretty good, but I have a lot of company. A professional videographer took video of all of us. When departing, I was surprised by the dips in the runway that I did not realize were there and rotated before I wanted to as it was launching me anyway. Pizza in the hangar there was nice. Got to see a bald eagle flying around.

Well done everyone... I spoke to the ground control after I landed at KDBQ after the Abel Island event and I thanked them for all of their help with our group. They, the controllers working the tower and ground frequencies, were so happy that we were all very patient as the tower crew worked to get us all in safely back on the ground. They specifically told me to ensure that I got the word out to our group...

Nice job BACfesters!

At one point we had numerous aircraft on right base, left down wind, and extended left base. I had to pull out to troubleshoot a gear light (burnt bulb), one landing 31, the others on 36. A couple of us got sent on an extended down wind and 7 miles out before he called our turn in so others who arrived after got in before. The controller had to ask some about to land their N number so he could be sure and clear them. Great fun.
