BACFest 2011

Tom and Margie Corcoran will be driving to Ithaca. Three long hours in solid soup. Thunderstorms along the flight route from Boston. Been there, done that.

See you about 5pm Thursday at Clarion.

3 planes on the ramp this evening and at least 29 attended the reception this evening. More arrivals expected tomorrow and Saturday.

They're having too good of a time to let us know what's going on. Must be some kinda party tonight!

I think there were maybe 8 planes on the ramp when we got in yesterday around 3:30. Mary and I just missed the airport gathering but Bo and Tom tracked us on FlightAware and were there to greet us.

Had a fun time at the get together prior to dinner. So many nice folks to meet and put the faces with the screen names on the forum. BAC members invaded the local restaurant for good food and conversation.

Why am I up so early? I can't erase my normal schedule so I figured I would check in here then go look at wx.

I got home at noon today. Whipped and answering calls from work, followups from the calls I was getting during the Banquet last night.

It was so great to see everybody, again! I sure missed the regulars that didn't make it this year, Bob Lewis, Cloyd, Bill Manhein, Eddy (PT Winner) and many others. I got to see Gene & Becky MacPherson back after missing a couple of years.

There were some new faces, People I had not met before. The North East has a pretty active fly-in family, many local airbosses and some 300 local members. Sorry, when you are from Texas and travel this state anything with in 400 miles is local.

The socializing was awesome lots of rib jabbing and fun. I found an ipad at the FBO, it turned out to be Dan Kirby's. And I had a great time with that one, when I got BAC to the reception on Friday evening. BACfest draws so many of our super talented members from their many fields of expertise. The opportunity to come face to face with these people, listening, sharing and learning.

I missed a good bit of the banquet last night with a customer's aircraft losing a back up hydraulic pump in flight last night. But I was there long enough to WIN a Bogey Bar!!! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Then there was the bar down stairs after-wards. Angel the barmaid stayed late for us and was awesome, when Sam did not have his tongue in her ear. I think, I paid her way through college with the generous assistance of Marty V.

What a great time I had with All of You Guys & Gals!

I will see you next year on the Gulf Coast Beach!

Becky and I are waiting for our flight out of Buffalo to begin the trip home. We too had a great time getting to see friends from prior BACfests and making new friends too. Congratulations to Wayne Hansen winner of the iPad2 and to all of the other winners of door prizes. I would encourage everyone to begin making plans for Sept. 28 - 30, 2012 for the sugar-white beaches of Gulf Shores, AL. See you there

Wayne and I used his new ipad from ITH to BAF and it is just unbelievable what they can do. We thought that maybe attached to the visor might work. Some light icing at 7000ft at 9000ft clear and blue and 26degs. VOR2 into BAF and the overlay on the plate on the ipad is right on. Head wind 30+ was very slow going to and from to BACfest 2011 had a great time (free drinks) great people, good meal (I made a ok steak sandwich, fish looked better) all and all it was priceless and hope to get to BACfest 2012. ken

Glad to see that all our folks made it home safely thru this low pressure system that created icing and such, as bad luck would have it, I'm now involved in a CAP search and rescue for a piper that didn't make it home thru Va in this weather, he went down somewhere on the Va an WV border Sunday, we're still looking. I did a quick speech at BAC fest, on how CAP comes looking when bad things happen, I wish, hope him well.

Steve,
Thanks for the impromptu presentation at BACFest on Search and Rescue. We all enjoyed it. Thanks to Marty too for the Reno update. Sorry I grabbed the wrong flashstick going out the door... I'll post the photos here soon on "Musketeers Do Not Float".
I hope you find the lost plane in Virginia soon and that everyone is OK.

Steve,

It is always great to see you again. I also really enjoyed and learned from your presentation. I gained several survival tips from your presentation, on Friday. You shared some valuable life saving information, that I will make a part of my standard ops.

Thank you, for all you do and for being at BACfest again this year,

Sciscoe

Sorry I'm late getting on this.....We are trying to get things done at work as Dru and I are off again this Thur and Friday for one final camping adventure....

BACFest was so much more than I expected!!!! I had a great time meeting everyone...now I have to put board names with real names....:0 The Penn Yan tour was a huge success (Thanks John!) I learned a lot from there and have been drilling my mechanics on things to look for during maintenance. Getting to go to the Glenn Curtiss Museum was an unexpected treat! We even had a personal tour guide after "Charlie" latched onto us. It was really fun!

The convention was fantastic....the Hotel was a bit dated, but the people that worked ther made it a non-factor. The stories were flying high (as to be expected) and the libations were were flowing. After lunch on Saturday, people just sat down and talked, not just about airplanes...it was really nice to get to know everyone.

I can tell you that we have a very nice group of people involved in the Beech Aero Club...if you could not make it to this event, you really have to plan for BACFest 2012!!! This was my frist time and I know it will not be my last!!! I am already planning for the Gulf Shores!!!!

I will post up some pictures later..... :)
