UPDATE: Beech Day 2009 and Northwest Region Fly-in Plans

This is more of a BUMP message than anything. I'll move my departure time up to 7am which should get me to Pasco at 9. I look forward to meeting other mouse drivers and checking out the planes.

Ben

I sure hope this weather passed, looks iffy. Was forecast to be severe clear, but now I don't count on it. I'll keep checking with the sponsors.

They are calling for storms today and tomorrow (it's bee sunny all day) here West of the mountains, with partly cloudy on Saturday. However, I've found weather forcasts in the Pacific Northwest are 50% accurate, within the next hour. Beyond that, don't count on the weatherman. We shall see.

I'm still planning to fly... the weather should clear up. It's been fairly calm in the mornings. Might just end up staying the night.

Ben

Looking at the progs, it looks like it will be OK. Maybe some build up in the late afternoon, like we've been seeing, but I'm planning to be wheels up at about 7:30. Cya there!

I figured we'd get in, but maybe get stuck cause of the build up. Wait til the next morning then head home. But now I'm seeing low overcast in the morning at KPSC til around noon. We'll just have to wait and see.

Ben

Fingers crossed

I feel like it will be real do-able as I see it right now, but a look tomorrow will be prudent! Cya there!

Looks like Pasco might be okay, but they're calling for 1300-2000 foot ceilings and rain around Portland all day tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but it's not looking good.

Well BeechDay came and went, after deciding to pick my way through the scud to get between some layers and finally on top at 12K, I finally made it into PSC, where Beechday was just getting underway. Seems like the weather (TS to the n,e,&west) kept many from trying to make it, even in the Bonanza crowd. But 4 BACers made it in, from Bend Oregon Ben Auker and his lovely wife Selena in their A23-19, and John Foster (also from Bend) in his Sierra. SO I am counting Selena as a BACer as well. Seems like mainly a Bonanza event this year, but hey, any reason to go somewhere....right?

A large cell moving south and east from Moses Lake forced me to leave early, with John Foster off just ahead of me. Ben and Selena were hoping to make more of a vacation out of it, so they may have stayed back to spend the night.

So, for me, although a small turnout it was still nice to meet some fellow BACers and put a face with the names.

Thanx Ben, Selena and John for showing up to help represent BAC.

I am certain we will make a good time out of the Arlington event coming up, I am planning a nice dinner for all the volunteers.

Well, we're home safe. I got off the ground and switched to 122.8 just in time to hear Thom calling La Grande. Home already, I thought. I still had an hour and 45 minutes ahead of me. Made an extra stop on the way home, then got to play with 6000' Density altitude in a Sport 150hp. That's always interesting. After shortening the trees a little with my prop, we were home in no time. After all the T storms this past week or two, I was surprised that it really wasn't that bumpy today. Go figure.

Thanks for suggesting this one Thom. Any excuse to fly is a good one. Managed to milk 4.8 hrs this time. It was great to meet Thom and John in person. See ya at Arlington.

Ben

Glad to hear you are home safe, I was hoping you would stay over and show Selena the sights. You mentioned that she was sorry to think your "vacation" was almost over. Lets make sure to see that she enjoys Arlington. It will, assuredly, be a lot more exciting. Looking for ideas for a dinner for the volunteers.

My trip was not so uneventful. Picked up some ice/frost @9.5 (yeah... in June!) and had do descend through some breaks to just over 1000agl all the way home......then it was BUMPY!! But I was sure glad to see the Grande Rhonde Valley in just over 20 minutes. Had about 155 kts at one point. Heck of a tailwind, but that's why it was so bad close to the ground.

Extra stop? Tree trimming? Still not as bad as being told to "go around" by ATC  !!

Sorry I couldn't make it, but the ceiling never got above 1000 feet until around 1:00 pm in Portland. Exactly the same as last year. Maybe next year, they'll schedule it a week later.
