Third Annual Picnic on the Flightline at Oshkosh AirVenture, Tuesday July 27th

Going to OSH today to drop stuff at Larry and Debbie's for the picnoc on Tuesday and to set up the Type Club Table.
The AirVenture grounds are a mess due to all the rain. No one is allowed on the grass, airplanes are being parked at the FBOs, and campers are backed up along the highway because they are not allowed on the campgrounds. The good news is that the sun is shining and there is a nice breeze blowing - and the forecast for Tuesday is looking great!!!!! I'll try to post some pics later today.
Our 'final' attendance count for the picnic is 35 Members and 46 guests for a total of 81!
Now if the weather doesn't stop some of you from getting to Oshkosh, we'll have another record attendance!!!!!

As of this 9:15 Sunday morning they are not allowing any aircraft parking on the grass at Oshkosh due to the soggy conditions. The general aviation parking and camping areas are closed as are the show plane areas which include all experimental, vintage, show plane, war bird, rotor craft, ultra light and even sea planes. Here is the link to the Aircraft Parking Status at Oshkosh: http://www.airventure.org/aircraft/parking_status.asp They are encouraging airplanes to divert to Appleton or Fond du Lac.

Here are some pictures of the 2010 BAC Picnic on the Flightline. Many many thanks to Larry and Debbie Last and their squad of volunteers, some of whom took the day off work to help out, getting and returning the tables and chairs, setting up, driving the shuttles, preparing the grounds, getting the food and drink and all the other little things needed to make this a success!

Member Bill Howard, on left, shaking hands with Francis Gary Powers, Jr. Bill flew B-17s and B-29s in World War II. His friends wurprised him with a ride in EAA's B-17, so he was a bit late to the picnic. Gary's father was shot down in the U2 spy plane incident over Russia.

Many thanks to Bob, Larry, Debbie,and all the other volunteers
who helped put on such a great event. This was my first BAC event, and I hope I will be able to attend many more. For those who were not able to attend, you would not believe the ring side seat we had for the War Bird Airshow. We really had the Royal Treatment. I flew back to Birmingham today from Oshkosh in 4Hr 10 minutes nonstop in a Cessna 210. That was pretty cool for a BE 23 driver. Maybe next year I'll try it in 2349Z.
