Let's give them the birdie

Ohio has been shut down for awhile now, my wife's school is closed and my kids are now attending college at home and my oldest son's start in the Peace Corp has been pushed back indefinitely. I don't want to see anyone sick (our county has been spared so far), but I have got to say this shut down has been pretty good. I am still working but things are pretty quiet at the office.

I hadn’t thought about the road toll in the US. Statistically, the RT in Oz is low enough to be regularly discounted in the overall picture.
Having said that, there are still 1200 funerals every year (nationally) here that are a result of road trauma.

That is pretty good considering you all drive on the wrong side of the road! I'm sure, had a been behind the wheel while there, that number would have been a bit higher.

Ours are about 36,000 per year. Maybe we need to drive on the other side?

I have no doubt that the shut-in will have an affect on traffic and other work related accidental deaths. I suspect that overall deaths from the Flu might also decline a bit as social distancing works for avoiding such. Might be a slight rise in home improvement project deaths. I am painting my house, so need to be careful on the ladder.

Hmm. No shootings in urban areas. No traffic deaths. Perhaps this will be the first plague where the population actually increases.
 
An acquaintance who I characterize as a "tree hugger" told me she thinks the virus is yet another attempt by Mother Nature to rid herself of the parasite that invests the surface of her planet.

I don't think it rough at all, not compared to the other posts bringing politics into this website. Rings of the phrase "You can't fix stupid."

I'm certainly not a long time member, but in five years this is a first.

At least this has taught me how to block a member (never had to do that before) and block a thread.

Personally I am sure I didn't say anything wrong, except maybe challenging or questioning a claim that the aggregate of deaths has declined from two weeks ago, when two weeks ago the deaths were much factually certainly lower. Some people must never have their assertions challenged. And it was said with such self righteous superiority.

I don't think it should be closed. There was no intent to start a controversy or anything else for that matter. I wanted us to go to that Gulfport airport restaurant where I had a wonderful time and then midway through it realized it is probably closed. And the conversation started to center around the root cause of it. And then someone decided to get irate over nothing that personally impacted them.

And because of it a cool thread is under threat to be shut down. I personally have yet to meet anyone that thinks that the draconian response to the Covid-19 virus was warranted, and I am sure most would agree with that. In the meantime we cannot go and have catfish and fries and a salad at Gulfport airport.

My fellow members,

As I sit here in the middle of my third week of employer directed self-isolation, unable to work, or assemble in public, or enjoy mass activities of more than 15 people, I am reminded that there are times in our lives when situations occur that are beyond our control. Such is the case with the COVID-19 virus. We all are affected in different ways depending where in the world we live, how our medical authorities and governments react and respond to the pandemic, and to what extent we respond or react to the recommendations of those authorities based on our own beliefs and values. No two people, and no two countries are affected in the same way or to the same extent.

The Beech Aero Club is a true international organization and as such we must remain responsive and supportive to all our members. We must support each other and respect each other and our individual beliefs. One of the great aspects of this club is that over the years we have never, or at least very rarely ever, had a contentious forum thread or a disagreement between members that could not be resolved by a simple reminder to remain respectful to each other. That is a statistic to be extremely proud of considering the atmosphere of many other social media forums these days.

Certainly the future beyond COVID-19 is unknown at this point and in large part it will depend on the overall effects of the virus on different parts of our world globally. But I have confidence that we will get beyond all of this and once again enjoy the freedoms that we did prior to the pandemic, albeit perhaps in a somewhat different manner. We are pilots and as such we have the skills to plan for, adapt to, and and bring to a successful conclusion any mission or situation that we are presented with. This pandemic is no different. We will all Aviate, Navigate and most of all Communicate our way to the end. As Beech Aero Club members we must all be available, in whatever capacity we are able, to support our fellow members, wherever they may be in the world. Most importantly in these times of uncertainty we must remember to remain respectful and courteous to each other. Remember our moto "All for one, and one for all"! Stay safe and take care of each other.
 
Looks to me like the catfish and fries is ever more likely to come to us sooner than later. They have started seeing a tremendous decline in new Flu cases, and like every year it seems to have run its course.

So I suggest that we plan on a mice fly-in as soon after the all clear sounds, I am happy first because things are getting back to normal I-10 is getting back to being full, from some days ago when it was nearly empty, and that I was right! It was just another flu!!! Love being right, and after 1998 and 2008 I did not sell any stocks or shares and the market will do just fine....

I think celebrating when this is over with a nice fly in down at GulfPort would be a victory lap against Doom & Gloom and general pessimism.

Any member can schedule a fly-in to anywhere for any date or time.
Put it on the event calendar.
That member becomes the host and makes all arrangements.
Ask your regional director to approve club subsidy.

Roger that! When it clears up from the lockdown I'll schedule a fly in.

Of course, Mark, that is an area that New York has used to bury unclaimed bodies for 150 years.

Don't overlook the upside to the ChiCom Flu. In the US, it has temporarily cured death from heart disease, DM and organ failure. Nobody is dying from anything other than CCF here because of the reimbursement of CCF treatment.

You get what you pay for.
