Fly-in to Fairbanks Alaska

Marty are you still in stl? If your here in the am maybe we can have breakfast somewhere. I have a bbq to go to this evening.

Steve,

Sorry, was working the homestead for my momma. Didn't have time for social activity. Weather is breaking toward the Southwest and I'm out of here in the morning. Try to see you next trip.

I don't blame you for heading home, you have been gone a long while. I would not be getting up to early since i just got in about 20 mins ago.

I finally made it back to KCHD. From KCPS to KDTO was an easy trip. I RON'd at a long time friends place and had an enjoyable evening with Bill Sciscoe. I even got a ride in the ZR1. Today from KDTO to KCHD was a long flight 6+12 and the last half I was fightin' it all the way. But, this trip is only memories now, and some pretty good ones. I have some great pictures that I will cherish. I was amazed that Bob, Mark, John and me actually spent that much time together and didn't really ruffle each others feathers....... much. I did have two disappointments. I never saw the "Northern Lights" as it never actually got dark. I didn't get to fish as the weather pretty much made the streams and rivers un-fishable. But, it was an experience I won't soon forget. Right now, I'm glad to be home.

Glad you made it home Marty! Turns out you were gone the longest. If you think back to all the places you went and things you did on this one trip, it is pretty amazing. I have a Canada-Alaska map I'm going to plot out trip on. Should be pretty interesting.

I agree, for as much time as we all spent together, it's amazing how smooth it went. Something about BAC members or Mouse flyers, I think. All really good folks.

One of the other Sundowner partners noticed right away that it flies better and faster that it did when I left, thanks to you and Mark.

I've got to get my pictures and videos organized and put them on DVDs to send to you guys.

Already thinking about the next trip!

what did Marty and Mark do to it?

Speaking of speed, it appears I've lost some. Although, throughout this trip most flights were pretty close to GWTO and mostly in loose formation with Bob's Sundowner. On the return from KDTO to KCHD I noticed at 8,500 ft I only got ~138 KTAS while burning 8.1 gph. Up at 10,500 ft I saw 133 KTAS with a 7.5 gph fuel burn. I used to get a solid 140 KTAS at 8500 ft and 137 KTAS at 10,500 ft, albeit with a slightly higher fuel burn. I wonder if my flow matched cylinders may have carboned up? The Sierra seems to be in good rig with little turning tendencies and the ball centered. I was relatively light with a brake release of 2503 lbs and the CG at 118.2". The head winds were light this trip and I was able to go non-stop. I arrived at the St. Johns VOR (150 nm out) with ~15 gals on board. Looks like I used 54.7 gals, but that is from my fuel log. I haven't topped off the tanks yet to confirm. I won't get to do that until tomorrow.

I have a mess of pictures to go through too. I'll have to edit them and get them on a CD or something. Mark let me download his from his SD card and he has more than I do. This might take some time.
