Fly-in to Fairbanks Alaska

Not really DATA Hound. If I've flown over it I've been there in my plane.

Nope, if you haven't actually touched down, it's just a dream. Otherwise, my map would be pretty much filled out. Perhaps we can get a club consensuses?

Don't bother. You color your map and I'll color mine. I don't need anybody to tell me where I have or haven't been.

Marty, you still in St. Louis? WX looked crappy for you today. Mark and John will beat you home!

BTW I need boots on the ground, or it doesn't count for me.

Looks like we're running about 50/50 so far. I never worry about landing in a state. If I've flown in its air space, I've been there and I post it on the map. Same if I am in a car. Even if I don't get out of the car and set foot on the ground I don't make the distinction.

Mark and John are safely back in Oz.
It is a pity that my bag cannot say the same thing. It is oficially "lost" somewhere between Dallas and LAX!

Welcome home....

Now I can get my main gear donuts done!!!!! :-)

Care to write a travel story for Australian Pilot???

Yeah, I've been in STL for a couple of days and it looks like maybe another. Weather good here, but lots of low ceilings in the Oklahoma, Arkansas and Northeast Texas areas. Most of the precipitation is East of my route, but the low clouds make for a tough go VFR.

Sorry Cloyd, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I was under the impression this was a flying club, not a travel club.

Wonder if I should recalculate all the countries I've 'visited' when flying commercially. I've flown over a lot more than I've set foot on.

Me too. But, I've visited enough countries for awhile. So, I've made my map statement more specific.

Mark,

Glad you and John made it back ok. Sorry your bag didn't, but hopefully it will turn up soon. At least it was on the return trip!

One good pilot!!!!!

OK, Marty, there is a group of fighter pilots known as the Red River Rats. They have a "flying club" known as the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association. The next time they have a convention I want you to go, stand up on the bar and tell them none of you've ever been to North Vietnam because you've just flown over it. You never had boots on the ground. [The ones that had boots on the ground probably won't be in attendance.]

When you get back, if you do, I want you to report back and tell me how tall you are.

How do I get one of those fancy maps for myself? Mine would only have 4 states on it but I would like to have one just the same.

I thought it was a Type Club?

I remember when it was a much friendlier place, we all got along respecting each other like family and the gentlemen here conducted themselves with some standard of decorum or at least by the Chuck Norris code,

I will develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways.
I will forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements.
I will continually work at developing love, happiness and loyalty in my family.
I will look for the good in all people and make them feel worthwhile.
If I have nothing good to say about a person, I will say nothing.
I will always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
I will maintain an attitude of open-mindedness.
I will maintain respect for those in authority and demonstrate this respect at all times.
I will always remain loyal to my God, my country, family and my friends.
I will remain highly goal-oriented throughout my life because that positive attitude helps my family, my country and myself.

Don, Alan White helped me a number of years ago with a PM about how to make the maps. I believe his instructions will still work. Here they are:
If you go to the website that I sent you ( http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStates...StatesMap.html ) then create your map. Save it as something on your computer. Go under "My Settings" (I think you'll see it to the left <-) and edit Signature. You can then post the file you have saved as your Signature. Hope this helps.

Alan

I think the maps should indicate only the states where you have actually landed, in a GA aircraft. Otherwise, what is the point? Since I fly a plane with small tanks, my souvenir of the stop is usually a fuel receipt and often a business card of the
FBO.

Carrying the other thought stream to the point of being ridiculous, an astronaut has overflown every country in the world. I dare say he would not suggest he visited any of them that he did not actually set foot, (or wheels).

If we are going to unofficially be "counting coup", then we should all be using the same measure and that should include touching the state with your plane.

Hoping to PA to my map on August 9th!
