World Championship Steak Cookoff Fly-In

Congrats on another great event! We are really having some successes this year. C'mon boys and girls, if you haven't made a fly-in near you then shame on you! Get out there and participate!

Well done everybody!

I posted half a dozen pictures in the gallery. No one had a camera at dinner to get the 6 of us with our nouths full.

Yeah, those 5500 broken skies were actually about 2200 (putting us somewhere near 1600). We were supposed to have been able to fly out from under it eventually to better weather, but after about an hour of flying we could tell it was the same everywhere we looked and off to our East, there was no visible horizon at all, and with very few lights on the ground. The line between Magnolia and Searcy goes through the middle of nowhere and mostly timber for the paper mills. So we decided to go take a look at Arkedelphia for the rest of the night, once we got there, we kicked around the idea of picking off the next town on the list (Malvern) and so on. But in the end, we settled for a near perfect night landing on runway 4 with the winds 9 to 14 gusts. The rest of the trip on Sunday was severe clear and much smoother.

Thanks for having us Gene, maybe we can do it again sometime.

Jay: Glad you chose the "safe" path home and that you had a good time at the Blossom Festival/WCSC. We enjoyed getting to visit with you, Deanna and Bo & Sandra.

It looks like none of us got steaks from the winning steak cooker. The Arnold Baker Chevrolet Team won the title "World Championship Steak Cooker" and the rest of the results will be published this afternoon in the local paper. I'll let you know.

If Bo got a picture of both Mice parked on the tarmac before you left, I hope he'll put them with the other 6 he published. I had driven out to the airport to get that picture; but missed you by about 5 minutes.

Thanks again for coming. Attendance was down this year due to the economy and the forecast storms (that did NOT materialize). Does anyone know if Steve Cote has friends in the Weather Service that forecasts for this part of the country?

Gene

The 2 places where a camera was needed: when there were 2 mice snuggled together on the ramp and when 6 people had their mouths full of cow.

The 2 places where no one had a camera: see above.

Gene, Are you going to submit the data to Chris for PT points? According to Airnav, my mileage was 177 and Jay's was 140.

Bo

Bo:

I will submit the air miles for PT points to Chris. Rats, on the not having pictures; but I still have the "site picture" in my mind anyway. Next year, maybe we can make it 10 mice on the tarmac IF the weather is better. Thanks again for coming.

It would have been nice to have had a camera when the cessna 210 came screaming over the courthouse at about 500 feet, while we were still enjoying our meal...

Yea, at least he could get his gear doors closed by the time he flew over us, ha ha!! Another brand C quality product! Maybe his radios were working by then too!

Yeah, he had to have done that pass on purpose. We did a long upwind before turning west and were close to 1500' and 2 miles south of downtown.

(I thought it was a 182RG)

Bo

You know, it might have been a 182, I didn't go get a good look at it when we were up at the airport. That's possible... Wings were on the wrong side to get my interest up too much.
