Western NC Fly Camp Hike and Fish (KAVL) May 20th - 23rd

If anyone just wants to come and hang out at the camp and explore the stream, you are more than welcome to join in. No one in this group is going to think less of you.

If you have ever thought about trying out fly fishing but never had the opportunity. This is that time to give it a go, I'll supply the gear and do my best to teach you the basics.

If you are looking for an excuse to fly, hear you are South East, Mid Atlantic members. This will make a perfect two day trip for you. Come in spend the day eat supper, do a little jawing around the fire , get up the next morning have breakfast and we'll get you back to your plane.

Looking for something to do with the kids or grand kids this weekend? Bring'em on, you get to fly and the kids get a chance to observe nature (they don't get enough of that these days).

Guys,

I'm rethinking about coming, probably 80-20 that I'll make it, and I'll probably drive (I absolutely have to be home on the 27th). The menu did it! I'm also interested in talking about the AT and a possible hike this fall.

Will let you know for sure as soon as I can.

Bob

BACON !! Now I just gotta get there .....

Looking at the rather wet forecasts sitting here in San Antonio. Yes, I am a wimpy flier (just ask some of those Alaska bush pilots I used to frequent with ... ). We'll see as the dates approach and the forecasts firm up. I will continue to think positive .... such as, hey, it's a great way to really scrub those bug bodies off the leading edge. And thinking about those luxurious HOT showers at the campground. Dude.

Just dug out my corn hole boards, they've been under my work bench for a couple years. Had to dust them off.

Donald,

In addition to the T-storms in the forecast, I now need a day of no rain (not happening yet) so I don't sink to the axles when I pull out of the hangar. Never had that a factor before...... but still not complaining about the rain. After all, I am from south Texas. We'll see as the days get closer. A little far for me to drive .....

Nice corn hole boards. I have seen that pattern somewhere ....... and you'll see my father's name on the side of the cockpit (Col. Amen).

Still thinking positive about the trip,

I just checked the weather again, it just keeps getting worse, I'm still in being I'm driving. If one other person confirms, I have no problem getting wet for a few days. If not I'll just call it off. Was planning on fishing if no one made it due to weather but it looks like the stream will be running high due to the rainfall.

If we have to drop this we'll start a new thread for our AT plans.

Still looking at the weather, not so good. The outlook is letting up a little but not as much as we need.

I'm calling it a no go unless someone tells me they are still coming. Told y'all I was a jinx.

Donald,

Thanks for your efforts. Good call on the weather and I will look forward to something else in your area .... one of these days. The AT sounds interesting but perhaps more hiking than I need. Or possibly a repeat of this BAC-in-the-hills at a future date since we have all of the details worked out in advance!

Hope to see you in Texas sometime,

Trumpet I end up in Texas about every two to three years for work, usually in the DWF area. If I have to travel to a outside branch something is horribly wrong and there is no time to play.

Donald, I know that you have been working hard for a while to organize this flyin. Thanks and maybe we can use the planning again.

Like any fly in, weather will always play a part. Thanks for everyone's interests and help. Took three try's for us to pull a lunch together in Ashe county.

I really would like to get an annual out doors event established though.

I talked to some guys who will pack you into the Smokies on horse back, drop you off for a few days and pick you back up. Good way to explore the park. Make a comfortable basecamp (horses will haul a lot more than we can) and hike a new trail every day.
