I encourage all those in the region to email me at doug dot muse at gmail dot com about any ideas, concerns, etc. I hope we have an active year of many gatherings. These are a few ideas for the 2007 year that I hope we can plan. If you want to help host any of these or would like to add events, please let me know. Hosting is very simply the arranging with the FBO for arrivals and hopefully gas discounts, rental cars as needed, and hotel discounts for weekend events. Most of the time this can be arranged with a few calls and you are done. Would love to have members in each state hosting events.

Please provide feedback if you would like to see any event in a particular month or season.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug,

As spring begins to arrive in the Bluegrass state, come March I'll post some events in Kentucky. We've had pretty good turnouts in 2005 and 2006 for events at Big Sandy, Rough River and Owensboro. May take a look at Lake Barkley and Kentucky Dam Village in western Kentucky. Both have state parks that have great buffets on the weekends. It's all about the FOOD!

sounds Like some great events within moderate range of my home base...I have only one request. Please for any events to the west within range of western South Carolina.....

Please do not plan or order 75 Kt head winds for the trip there....35 Knot groundspeed(s) are not my idea of a great flying time.

Now, if you order them for my trip home, well I won't complain...

Doug, I used to like to fly to Dauphin Island, AL (4R9). Pre-Katrina the Seafood Galley would send a car to pick you up at the strip. Fun little strip, nothing there (no gas, just tie-downs), juts out into the water. There's a public beach across from where the Seafood Galley is/was and there's a fort at the end of the island that used to guard Mobile Bay. I think there is/was a Coast Guard station there and there are/were some motels. I've been meaning to fly over there for a look-see but haven't made it since Katrina. I'll let you know when I get over there.

Cloyd:

Let us know what you find out about Dauphin Island. I have always looked at that as a potentially "fun" trip.

Just want to encourage all members (not just those in SE) to help come up with event suggestions including those to bring the spouse and family. We can do meals, tours, gatherings, clinics, etc. Get those suggestions on the way. Fly-in events do not have to be aviation related.

If you want to help host a fly-in or have interest in one of the events posted above, please let me know at doug dot muse at gmail dot com.

Blue skies,
Doug
