Sun n Fun 2020

I think it's too far out to make a prediction on OSH. Most viruses seem to die out over warm weather.

I'm a volunteer (one of the old farts) and so far no indication of any changes. Sun 'n Fun may be another story.

That might hold out traditionally however it summer in Australia and it's spreading in Australia.

Sun n Fun moved to 5-10 May 2020. Unfortunately I'm committed to another event at that same time so will be unable to attend this year. Have fun to all that can make the change and I'll see the rest of you at OshKosh in July. Flatten out and fly straight.

Sun n Fun Cancelled!

Sun n Fun was declared cancelled by email last night. The organizers are offering to honour your purchased tickets next year in 2021, or to refund your ticket purchase for a 5% refund fee. Details can be found at www.flysnf.org

I’ve seen nothing yet on either the EAA or Air Venture sights yet Mark, but if it trends the same as other organizations I’m afraid you may be right. I’ll remain hopeful that it will happen; at least until it doesn’t.

Sun n Fun is the big money event for Aerospace Center for Excellence. Reporting $6M revenue and $11.5M net assets they depend on this event. The timing with the onset of Covid-19 just didn't work and there was no way, despite the attempt to move the date, to hold on this year.

OSH Airventure is similar in that it is the big money event for EAA. EAA reports $47M revenue and $35M net assets. EAA may be better financially to weather a "no event" year, but I'm guessing they are desperate to find a way to hold the event. Repeat $47M annual revenue and likely most of that comes in in one month, when OSH occurs. Now EAA has the benefit of being much later in the year so they not only have time to plan but time to wait for how things play out in the next month or months (change in the trend). With $47M in incentive I'm betting they have some smart people trying to figure out how to keep the event on this year.

Maybe glass half full... 🤞

Isabel took no time in going for the sensational to grab a reader. If it turns out to be right (data based on FB responses is a sure thing, don't know why the Pew Research Center doesn't save money and just do this) well then it was a crazy year. But if OSH happens then I'm cancelling Plane & Pilot magazine. Anne says I can live with only 5 magazines/month anyway.
