Around The Moon
I am posting this today to ask for your support in a special project for a special BAC member. Many of you know Mike Rellihan personally, quite a few have met him and hundreds of us have benefited from his knowledge, advice and wisdom.
As most of you know, Mike has had some challenging health problems for a while. Recently it was determined that Mike’s cancer was operable and he is in Houston as I write this, getting the treatment he needs. The prognosis seems positive and Mike is confident he will benefit greatly from the surgery as opposed to other forms of treatment.
But, the reason for this posting is to solicit donations to help BAC cover the transportation costs associated with getting Paula and Mike (and their car) home from Houston after the surgery. BAC member Ed Shepherd first came up with the idea and after doing a little “behind the scenes” work, we were able to get BAC member and Beechcraft Heritage Museum Division President, Harold Bost to agree to fly his beautiful Baron from his home in Georgia to Houston, pick up Paula and Mike, and fly them back to Laurens, SC. The deal with Harold is that we will pay for the avgas and any other incidentals. Doing this for Mike is a great idea. He is certainly capable of handling his expenses but this will allow him to avoid the arduous three day drive home after having just had surgery. And since commercial flying is anathema to Mike, we thought a ride in a nice Baron would be the perfect way to get him and Paula home. It is little enough to pay Mike back for all the things he as done for all of us!
I am asking for donations of all sizes, as much as you feel you can give, to be made by check. We chose not to use PayPal due to the percentage that is taken from the donation. Please make your check to Beech Aero Club and mail it to the BAC post office box. Here is the address: Beech Aero Club, P.O. Box 899, Georgetown, KY 40324.
As for the family car that Paula and Mike used to drive to Houston, we are trying to put together a relay system to get it back to Laurens. BAC member Bill Manhein is planning to do the first leg by driving if from Houston back to Louisiana. We would like some volunteers to step up that can either drive the car or fly a member from a relay point back to their home. All the details haven’t been worked out yet but let me know if you can assist in “mike-mobile” homecoming effort!
So, I hope you will help us help a friend. Mike has contributed so much to BAC it is hard to imagine the club having the success it has had without him. I know these are tough economic times but please do what you can and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
All for one!
