I will try to be there, along with my instructor in his Grumman and his son. We missed out last year due to the flooding...

Excellent reminder. I will put it on the calendar so this will become an official BAC event.

I will not be able to attend.

For any first timers ...... please visit (or fly) with someone who has done this fly-in in the past. It is a GREAT event, but a real rodeo in the air ... and on the ground .... as far as aircraft movements. Camping a couple of nights is a blast!

I have placed it on the calendar. Here is a photo of my plane/campsite .... before BAC! To get a better feel of the event, just view some of the you tube videos of Reklaw 2018 and 2017 online.

Be safe.

We have two planes coming in from Colorado, will arrive Thursday or Friday morning depending on weather. If you arrive late morning or during the day it will be very busy in the pattern, so listen and watch outside.

If you haven't been to Reklaw, be ready for neck pain. During daylight there's something flying by every 30 seconds for two days, not to mention looking at what's on the ground parked. Good fun.

Yes, it's very busy and a bit chaotic. I highly recommend approaching the field at pattern altitude and fly a traditional pattern. There can be 5 or more people in the pattern doing low passes. The low passes start at sun up till just after sunset....every kind of plane and formations....all pilot coordinated. I suggest one low pass when you get there just to get a feel for the place. The runway is long but it's hilly so a plane can stop at the 3/4 point and you can't see Hime from the departure end.

I will be stopping at my buddy's place near Canton to group up with them. He and his wife have a 3000 foot grass strip, 91TA.

Coming from the north, If you need fuel, I think Wills Point( Van Zandt, 76F) has some pretty decent prices for fuel. There is no service there but a nice terminal building. I think there is a crew car there if you might need to pick up anything.

Some tips from prior trips to Reklaw:

- (1) from my first time there ..... after you find the runway, hangar, and parking field from the air, then when you join into the pattern .... YOU WILL VISUALLY LOSE THE RUNWAY. Surprise ! Check other landmarks when you first approach for orientation. And sequence yourself with the other aircraft. On downwind, the runway completely disappears due to the tall trees.

- (2) look for and study the after-landing taxi routine and do not deviate from the norm. The several near collisions I have witness (some were VERY exciting, to say the least) were due to a pilot deciding to taxi in an unusual direction after landing. Assume there is a plane floating and landing long just behind you and rolling toward your tail. If you see that perfect parking place upon landing, just let it go until you have the ground operations all well in-hand, and only then wait for a gap in the traffic to move to your selected parking spot.

- (3) the tall trees completely block the view of aircraft on final as you wait in line for your turn to take-off. Prior to getting into your plane, walk over there to that spot and watch for 30 minutes or so. This gives you a chance to study the routine and the hazards

- (4) ain't no shame in performing a go-around. It may take an extra (or two) approach before you are comfortable putting those wheels on the grass. Totally expected and always acceptable.

- (5) I made a huge mistake once by following the directions of the helpers on the little wooden platform "tower". It was very close and I was ready to hang up my license. They are there to help, but NOT there to substitute for your experience and decision making. My story may cost you a beer. 2 or 3 years later, I was still hearing people talk about it during the event. There are times in your life when it is just best not to say anything!

- (6) you will have a GREAT time !! Again ... bring a lawn chair and just watch. Idiots walking across the runway with planes on short final are almost as entertaining as the aircraft operations. If you are safety minded like me, a supply of Tums is a good idea. :o

That is the same thing I'm hearing! Looking forward to it. Just hoping for good weather to fly out to Texas.

Still looking good!
Thursday PM and Fri AM - - - 40% chance of rain.

Then - - sunny for both Saturday and Sunday. Highs near 70, lows near 50. Awesome!

Nelson (still in Montana)

Weather looks good for the weekend... just hoping I can avoid the weather between NC and TX. Leaving Thursday afternoon and stopping in AR for the night.

Supposed to rain all day Friday but clear out real early Saturday. I'm not making the trip as of now. The weather is moving my way and looks like it will also block my return.

Just a side note, as I hadn't planned on attending, But yesterday I was practising holds over the Navasota VOR and making callouts on 122.9

Apparently Reclaw is on that frequency and close enough for me to pick up at 2500' ! :-)

I heard a lot of folks flying into Reclaw yesterday, so even if you drive in you will see some planes!

I am sitting in Houston this morning and it is still storming, but should be stopping soon. The weekend should be nice.
