John are you going to make it? It would be nice to get a good turn out. No fly ins in the Mid Atlantic yet this year. We are way over due. Anybody out there ?

JP

Johnny:
I'm gonna give it a go for this weekend. It's been almost a month since I flew up to CRJ. To be honest, I've always steered clear of the DC SFRA. Maybe it's time to face that particular phobia?

Hey I have a no-brainer shortcut into Manassas. Contact Potomac approach before you get to Warrenton then fly the railroad tracks in @ 2000 feet it'll take you right to the base of Manassas . Tell the tower West ramp and they will direct you right in. If you have any questions or I could be helpful p.m. me.

The weather does not look good for me to make the trip. I might try to get my cousin to fly in with me, he is an airline pilot. It will be a long shot.

Got it. Direct GADZI from OFP, then enter FLUKY to HEF. Tell tower West ramp. If I screw up, I doubt they can scramble and shoot me down in four minutes. Besides, the warning lasers are said to be quite colorful, like Christmas! Seriously though, will Potomac open a filed SFRA flight plan if one is on flight following or do you need to contact Leesburg?

How about a flyin that's not in the Sfra- I was planning on coming to luray but I have no experience in that area. I have a friend that was a airline pilot that avoids the area when flying his own plane.

There is a simple online course that spells out the rules for VFR in or near the SFRA. This course is mandatory if VFR within 60 miles of DC. Faasafety.gov has the course. Or, fly IFR if that is an option and avoid the special rules issue. ATC is pretty helpful anyway if we at least try to follow the rules. While any special rule is a royal pain in the butt at least this one has clear cut rules to follow and the rules are accessible.

Sorry about the change up.we already had two members at the chili cook off. That also fixed the where to eat lunch and made it inexpensive .It is difficult to figure how many will make or even try to make a fly in by just posting it.Look forward to meeting you. When and where we get together we always have a good time.If any member wants to schedule a fly in they are more than welcome .One of my favorites was two guys that didn't no each other running for a BAC director spot being the only two to show up on the last day of the election. It involved luray and golf only to find out the course was closed for the season .One candidate let the other candidate use his battery charger and flew him to Bryce so they could still Golf (if that's what you would call it).As for the Sfra .Its a pain but after a few years of going out of Manassas not too bad.pm or call if you have questions.

That's what I was thinking. Rain moving in this evening, supposed to rain all day Sat with possible T-boomers anytime. Not much better for Sunday either. As much as I want to hook up with a few fellow BAC'ers, this may not be the time. Good day to do more work on my mouse! Landing gear rebuild (fixed) with Cleavland brake conversion is almost complete.

Since the event is hosted by EAA and several of our members are based on the field, we won't call it off for weather. There may only be ground-bound members there but, hey, they need gas too!

Nice call Director ! I am prepared for a low approach . As in IFR .I fly (this case drive) roads.Hopefully some of you can drive in . Alot of fun BAC news and Events on the horizon. Any questions call me 703-723-0986 .

jzchili1.jpggeorgeandtom chili.jpgChili cook off was a success .Nobody was able to fly in but two BAC members won prizes for best "REAL" chili category. George Phillips and John Zinkus were in the medal Round For best "Real"Chili. It was fun seeing everyone. Members from the Civil air patrol along with the Young Eagles coordinator were present .Our own Steve koski (Wizard ) made a cameo to get a quick bite along with John's wife Doreen and food critic Tom Butler (747 -400 driver).
