I actually made a real effort to get to Lancaster.
N5162M departed 1B9 which is half way between Boston and Providence and got comfy to fly the 253 miles.
I got as far as Pawtucket, Rhode Island and got on top of an undercast. That was only six miles of flying.
About midConnecticut I called Flight Watch and they indicated that the clouds were solid all along the route.
Yes, I could have done an IFR approach but I would see NOTHING under me for 500 miles round trip.
As Martha's Vineyard was clear I went there for breakfast and sunshine and got to see a few friends.
This made the normal 54 mile flight to KMVY a 90 minute excursion.
But, I went to 6500' initially which is way higher than my sealevel flying usually requires.
I really ought to do that more often as the view is spectacular and I think I use less fuel at that altitude.
Next time... ladies and gentlemen... and Scott.
