Pacific NW Flyin - Sunriver, OR

Level Cruise
I want to plan a fly-in for Sunriver, Or sometime in August 2013. I was hoping to get a show of hands on who is interested. In case you are unaware, Sunriver is one of Oregon's premier resort areas:

There is plenty to do there during the day and in the evening in the Summer ranging from kayaking, cycling, hiking, golf, rest, relaxation to dining. I plan to stay overnight so I will research accommodations in the area. For now, let me know if you're interested.

Thanks!

Jon

We'd be interested, but with Robin's work schedule the only times we could make it are Tues-Thurs Aug 13-15 or Aug 27-29. Those are the only times she has more than one day off in a row that month. (Yeah, I know it sucks.)

We would certainly try to make it. As always it depends on the dates and the weather but we are definitely interested.

Scott,

You are right. The resort is right on the Deschutes River and the approach at each end goes right over the river. I have flown in several times and stayed overnight once. They have good accommodations and the food at the lodge restaurant is very good. There is golfing at the resort. You can canoe or fish the river and probably other activities I'm unaware. It is a quiet, peaceful place to RON.

Quick update: I am waiting to hear back from Sunriver about any special rates for groups, camping arrangements, etc... I hope I didn't start this too late, I might have... I will do my best though to give some lead time.

Ok All,

I heard back from the people at Sunriver River and they made us a fancy brochure broadly going over what the resort has to offer and pricing with dates for us. The Cliff Notes version is Sunriver has plenty to do and see and we need at least 5 rooms on each of the nights to get the group rates, so hopefully we can get enough of us together.

They gave us 3 weekends to choose from:

  • August 22-25
  • August 29-September 1
  • September 5-7

Now who wants to come? This could be a lot of fun!

Thanks,

Is that for Friday & Saturday night and out on Sunday?

I'd like to try and make this one. The 5-7 Sept would be better for me as it is most likely cooler weather and smoother ride for the CFO.

It's for Thursday - Saturday night, out on Sunday. We need at least 5 rooms used a night. The more the merrier :)

I agree, September tends to be a little crisper and more stable, but what's wrong with a few bumps?

This will be a hard sell to the CFO. Over $800 in just fuel alone. If there are any significant bumps, we land, wait then go home. There are already routes she will not travel because of past experience. Also, the en-route time is over the limit too. It's starting to look iffy for me. I don't even know what the group rate is. With the cheapest rooms gone for $704 for the three days, I'm pretty sure we won't get a significant discount. I just broke the trip cost to the CFO, she asked me to reminder her again why we have this airplane. Some people will never get it.

So what are the group rates?

According to the pricing they sent, for September, $155-215 per night (plus some resort fees). I should probably make sure they know we're the Beechcraft Aero Club, not Bonanza Club :-)

Thanks Jon,

Looks like the resort fee's and other "assessments" would be in the $35 - $45 range per night. So that makes the stay in a room at $155/night about $572 for the three nights. Fuel, lodging, food/entertainment could make this trip nearly a 2 AMU event for me. I think it unlikely to be approved by the CFO. Too bad, she really likes the place. It's just too far for a fly-in for us.

Sorry, I know this is short notice, next year I will have this out there a couple months in advance. So does anyone think they will make it? How about camping style, anyone down for camping at Sunriver?

Folks, I'm not getting the response I need to put together a fly-in for Sunriver this year. At this point I'm going to call it off. Better luck for us next year.
