Newby Sierra questions. Flying the Sierra.

When testing for the AOPA article we measured 141 kts TAS at max continuous power at something like 2000 ft. When in a hurry....

Aaron, You are one sharp cat!

The highest fuel flow on the chart shows 16.9, sea level ISA Minus 20C. But as you climb in altitude the fuel flows are not a great deal over what the other perf charts show, at about 10K they equal out.

The book TAS, chart speeds are very good on this aircraft 144kts/166mph to 146kts/168mph at sea level, with not a lot of speed loss at altitude, maybe 7 or 8 kts at 10K.

You are really dumping some gas in the engine but at sea level the charts show as much as 20kts/23mph gain in speed, over the 2700 rpm 75% chart settings. As stated above at about 10K everything starts to level out with the other charts.

SFC usually works out pretty close to the 0.5lbs/hour/hp... the IO-360 might be a bit better with the tunned induction system.

I have just acquired a Sierra B24R. I have read the POH and it states that it has a fuel capacity of 58 gal (2 x 29)with a total usable of 52 gal. This seems strange as the POH for the model C24R states that usable is 57.2 gal. with what appear to be identical gross fuel capacity. Is this a misprint or has there been a design change that effectively makes an additional 5 gal not usable. This would sure change the endurance.

P.S. where can I post a request for clarification on some avionics in the B24R ?

Last question first: You can post anywhere, with the level of thread drift.....

The usable fuel thing is based upon whatever lawyers were involved in the POH at the time. All musketeers have essentially the same fuel capacity.
