Napa Wine Country Fly-in

Dan and everyone,

Liz and I have never been to Napa and don't know anything about the area (other than the wineries). We would really appreciate a shove in the right direction for somewhere to stay. We are not opposed to sharing a house also if the offer is still on the table please consider us.

Thanks,
Gary and Liz

Places to Stay

It would probably help if anyone making a reservation could give a PIREP on the price and availability. Unfortunately, Napa can be a bit expensive, but looking around does not hurt. There is no place to stay here that I would avoid from a neighborhood standpoint.

The places that I think might be most affordable are:

Best Western Inn at the Vines
Chablis Inn, mentioned above
Chardonnay Lodege, pretty basic
The Chateau Hotel, might be getting pricey
John Muir Inn, good prices in past years, might be catching up.

If you really want a romantic time:

La Residence Luxury Inn

If you want to stay in American Canyon there are now a few choices:

Gaia Napa Valley Hotel, might be pricey
Fairfield Inn, may be renamed now as I could not find the listing.

You can rent cars through the FBO (Bridgeford Flying Service). I'm pretty sure that is Enterprise. We also have an Enterprise and Budget franchise in town (about 4 miles from the airport).

Hope this helps.

Just checked-Chardonnay Inn only has doubles left for that weekend.....I waited too long to book the King $110 a nite (DOH!) The rate for the double is $130 a nite...still not bad for the area...Got my reservation!!!!now We just need great weather!

Liz and I booked a room at the Chardonnay Lodge. I'm assuming that is the same as the Chardonnay Inn. We will see everyone there.

Napa Fly-in

I just sent out an email to all those who attended last year and those who have committed for this year. If you did not get an email and are coming, let me know. I may not have your email right, it changed, or I did not know you were planning on coming.

Thanks.

Napa Fly-in

I'm bringing this back up to the top. The Napa Fly-in kicks off a week from this Friday. It was great last year, and wil be just as good this year.

I have been sending confirmation emails to those already on the list. I need dinner selections for Saturday night and who is making the Friday barbecue at my house.

If you have not been getting my emails and/or want to be on the list, provide me an email address.

I hope to see as many of you as possible next weekend.

Napa Fly-in

Rick,

For some reason the email you gave me is bouncing back. I need to know if you will be in Napa for the Friday evening barbecue and/or Saturday and what your dinner selections are. Choices are steak (with or without special potatoes), broasted chicken, vegetarian pasta, Salmon.

Thanks.

napa wine country fly-in

Dan,
I will be arriving sometime Friday afternoon and leaving on Sunday, 2 steak dinners please, and no potatoes. I will do my best to be at the barbecue on Friday. I never know what can happen at the last minute at work.

Weather

Jeanne,

I don't want to convince anyone to fly when they are uncomfortable. The long range models I look at talk about something very late Friday and into part of Saturday on the central coast. I think if you can get into the central valley, you would miss much of that. This time of year, those clouds can offer opportunites either over or under. My models do not show rain in Napa and show the route as pretty clear for Sunday. You might even do better if you can get out a little earlier although I know the marine layer matters for you.

Let me know and keep an eye on it for a few days. Often times it is not nearly as bad as it sounds. Check the TAF along the route for Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Paso Robles, and Salinas. Check along the route in the central valley too. Look for the middle cloud layers.

Newguy

Newguy, are you planning on attending Napa? Message me with your email address. If you are coming for dinner Saturday, I need to order your dinner.

Dan Jonas

I'll be there.

Dan, nevermind my e-mail from this morning, I'll be there Saturday, but I won't be staying for the dinner this time. thanks

Hot Date?

What's the deal Joe, got a hot date on Saturday evening? Some of us will be out at the airport on Saturday. I think some will be sight-seeing. You may not meet everyone if you skip dinner, but at least you will meet a few.

Look forward to seeing you.

I'm looking forward to the fly-in. For those looking for other attractions, Safari West in Santa Rosa is pretty cool. I believe they are still open. Also, Marine World in Vallejo is close by.

weird

I didn’t post as a new subject I swear I didn’t.
Dan what’s the schedule for this weekend. I am thinking I may come over Friday night for the BBQ if that’s still on. Saturday doesn’t look so good right now.

Looks like a nice day to fly! Clear from Bakersfield to Napa! Anyone on the fence about heading to Napa. Last year was a lot of fun: Lots of planes, met many BAC folks, quick tour of the wine country and a really well planned event.

See you all soon!
