I hope to be able to make it. IF I do, I will have to fly commercially, then drive up from Atlanta. So count me as a tentative with no need for ground transportation.

May 17 - Update: Looks like I have some sort of flu bug so I won't be able to attend. Sorry.

Thank you Paul for posting this. I will be gathering up the hotel locations and phone numbers as I soon as I can talk to them. I will see if they will allow us to get a corporate rate under my Company name. In addition, if I get enough information ahead of time, I will try to see if they allocate a number of "block rooms" together to further allow us insure sufficient space for all those who wish to come. I will post again as soon as I get the information together..

Weather permitting, I will arrive at KLUX on Sunday morning by 11:30. Later this week I will know whether or not I will need hotel accommodations for Sunday night. Thanks to all involved in allowing this celebration of Mike's life.

I have done some checking with the local hotels and have found two nice places to stay at with quality accommodations. I would recommend the following two hotels, for those needing to stay over night. Room availability at both are wide open this coming weekend, with no major events planned in Clinton or Laurens this weekend. Both are conveniently located just off of Interstate 26 in Clinton. Both are within 8 miles of the airport with easy access to them from the airport, and also offer easy access to Laurens, SC for the Movie. All are convenient to Dinner and breakfast locations for your dinning pleasure.

Comfort Suites (completed in the last year)

Room is a double bed (with other larger rooms available at higher rates) arraignment with Free Contential Breakfast and free coffee, Free wireless high speed internet access, Free local calls, Indoor heated pool, Fitness center, and a Conference room if needed.

Room rate is $79.99 plus tax. If you book here, please use the following code : LBREV (they offered the bereavement rate, which is cheaper than the Corporate rate.They offered this as a affordable rate when I explained to the general manager the situation.). Phone number is 1-864-833-4559.

Hampton Inn

Also conveniently located, the same distances from KLUX and Laurens, with the additional benefit of being co-located with a Fatz Cafe right next door (literally) and the Comfort Suites are located just a two miles further down the Interstate from Fatz Cafe...Same room setups and features as Comfort Suites. Their room rate is $84.00 (corporate rate) plus taxes. If you choose this hotel, tell them you are a Hammerhead Aeronautical customer to get this rate. Phone Number 1-864-938-1040.

If you need ground transportation to and from the hotels, and to the event on Sunday if you come in overnight, or stay afterward overnight, know that we have made some arraignments for transportation to get you back and forth...I will also post other directions for others who come in by car, or have their own transportation arraignments made due to the Highway construction projects going on presently in the County. I will post more later...

I've put in a request for three days off (22-24) to allow time to travel. I won't know if I get if for a few more days. My biggest issue is getting to Laurens. If I go to Greenville-Spartenburg I have to go from New York to Dallas and then back. I would not mind avoiding that routing. Anyone going where I could either bum a ride from or near a major airport served by New York JFK?

Chris, I could get to Atlanta and share the car, but I need to be in on the 22nd and back to New York of the 24th.

Sadly Candy and/or I can't make it - on the short notice there's nothing remotely affordable out of SoCal to anywhere in the reasonable vicinity.

Dan - any easier going into Charlotte, NC? Less than 2 hours and 120 miles to Laurens - US Airways hub with lots of hops to NY area airports - non-stops to JFK on USAir, Delta and Jet Blue - Newark on United or Continental - unfortunately it looks like American/AE only serves it out of DFW, Chicago and Miami - nothing NY area. One plus versus Greenville is 24 hour cars...
