KALX Donut Day Fly-in at Alexander City, AL

Hey Rap, sorry to hear about the weather .That was a excellent fly-in idea .look forward to seeing future ones your way.I am stuck in northern NJ with clear skies and no plane.(it's in VA)

BACer Makes it to Donut Day!!!!!!!!

Well, we did have on BACer make it. Note he flew in a very rare early model of the Musketeer. This series is referred to has the scud-runner model, and it appears to be the Navy version as it has a tail hook, is travelling at extremely low altitude, and is flying in formation with another mouse that will arrive in a couple of days. Thanks to Mike Goss for his participation in the non-event and this pix.

With the level of interest in this subject, look for a reschedule in the future.

I gave some thought to just taxiing there on the interstates, but wasn't sure about showing a white tail light vs. the normal red in the back........

Yes - - - please - - - reschedule if at all possible. I would love to attend.

Trumpet:
The pix angle may make it look worse than it is, but that's about the "most squashed" donuts I've seen.

Here's what a good donut stack looks like, note clearance between tire and upper housing.

Cliff: Great paint scheme, who did it??

Your donuts look well worn, wouldn't call it urgent, but you might want to put them on the maint sched within the next year or so. Rule of thumb: the stack pin, under the donuts and behind the knee, should be visible. Yours don't appear to be. I've seen recommended replacement times from 5 to 15 years, my first set went 47.

Rap,

Great looking donuts! (donut porn?) Ok, I am officially jealous.

Mine are a little stale - - replaced Sept. 1996. I will check the logs to see if they were regular or jelly-filled .....

Still feels good on landing ..... but that pin has worked its way up and is well covered, so I don't meet that test.

Land gently, with compressed "stale" donuts you are transmitting landing loads directly to the spar. Look at the 4 large screw heads on top of the wing on top of the MLG, if there are wrinkles in that area, not good.

Just a few large wrinkles there .... and the doors open about a foot so I can still squeeze in. Not a problem yet ....
