Fly in and Golf Day

Touring the Galaxy
We have a large championship golf course in Woodland, with a restaurant. The restaurant will allow us entry (with a collared shirt) but, we can't play golf on the members only course-drats. However, there is a muni course next to the members only course. So, we could eat at the restaurant and then use the muni course. Are any BAC members interested in participating in a day of flight and golf? If so, I need a list of people so I can get cost figures for the course and available booking dates.

Marty,

This looks like the perfect event to get your mind off helium, and you are the Regional Director! Talk about timing Bob! :)

Would be a good fly-in, except for the golf part. I have enough frustration in my life already. However, I've a trip planned to the central valley for Easter Sunday. Maybe we can meet some place on Easter Saturday too. Any ideas where? Columbia? Mariposa? Merced?

Bob,
Not interested in the golf, like Marty the frustration is too high. I have relatives near you, so any fly in with dinner/lunch, I am up for.

Mr. Bob,
We'd be interested depending on the dates. We aren't golfers either but that doesn't matter! Hope to be there!

Well, since golf sounds like a no go, and Marty is arriving near Easter, I would be open for a Columbia fly in. I'll check with the Columbia Airport and see if they are holding any events that weekend. Ill also check and see what shops will be open.

Bob,

The "old town" of Columbia is a nice walk (perhaps 1/2 mile or so) from the airport. This is a weekend getaway place. I will help arrange this with you if you would like. The place is fantastic for lunch, with many choices.

Hi...complete idjit here...where and when is this proposed hook-up so I can decipher it? (I'm not better at golf than reading :-) )

Urban(legend),

It is in Central California, and the date is open to planning and opinion as we speak. I think it is a go; we just have to get details, no golf involved (unfortunately). Columbia is in the Sierra foothills, piece of cake if you live west of them, 14,000ft cumulous graniteus to fly over if you live east.

Uh..... I should have said I'm in the planning stages for the Easter trip to the central valley. Family decisions will be the determining factor. However, I haven't missed the Easter picnic at the 40 acres in 4 years. So, I'm planning to be there. Whether or not my bride will be with me is still a question. She may drive her new car as she's itchin' for a road trip (with my scratch). I've been to Columbia airport and it's not a tough place to land or take-off. I remember a pretty good lunch in town with the nephew and brother-in-law. So, I could get a pretty good recommendation on a restaurant, although they have been gone for a good while. Sound like the makings for a pretty good time. I like the idea of an RON. I would have made the last one, and I did make it to KSNS before the weather gods got nasty. So, I went to Napa instead.

Columbia isn't in the big hills. It is in a valley by some foot hills. Where Columbia gets tricky is when it is hot. The DA climbs real quick. This time of year it isn't much more than a normal valley flight. For those wishing to stay the weekend, they have a small authentic hotel in town. (of course it actually has bathrooms in every room) the town is an old Gold mining town. It looks like a wild west town as seen on TV. Black Bart is said to have robbed stages just outside of town.

I'm in. This is a fun place and it is Kid friendly! I took my son when he was 4 (now 6) and we did the Stage Coach tour. As luck would have it, there was a "hold up" as the stage coach traveled behind a large rock! My son, Max, not knowing what was going on, got scared... right up until the "Masked man" demanded I get him an ice cream when we got back to town! The town is very authentic, and as others have said, the airport is sort of on a plateau before you reach the big mountains. Sounds fun!
