Columbia, CA Fly-in (O22)

I posted a fly-in for Aug. 15th. We will fly into Columbia (http://www.airnav.com/airport/O22), walk to town and check out what the Wild West had to offer in the 1800s. If you have never been to Columbia it is an authentic gold rush historical site. They have Stage Coach rides, shoot outs, gold panning and other cool activities. It will be a day trip for me but, there is a hotel with limited space available for anyone wishing to make a weekend of it (book ahead). The field elevation is only a few thousand feet but, the density altitude can climb quickly. Plan ahead !

Sounds like fun but I can't make it, hope you get some turnout and thanks for putting on the event.
 
Mark I thought we could meet at the airport at 9ish. I have the BAC banner and a photo could be taken of participants. After the photo a hike to town for some grub.
 
I can do that as long as the marine layer isn't bad in the AM - I'm not current on my IFR although unless it's really bad one can usually manage SVFR unless the clouds are hard up to the Altamont. Livermore should be good this weekend although there were some OVC070 mornings fairly recently.

Don't forget tomorrow is our Gold Rush fly in at Columbia Airport. I have certificates of participation for those of us using the over 35 (aircraft) tax exemption. Arrival time is 9ish. I read your post Mark I'll hope you can get out.
 
Should be fine - when it's this warm we don't see much marine layer. BTW - if you haven't looked at the forecast for O22 it's forecast for 99F - so DAs will be close to 5000...

Down at Columbia, gassed for return, we will see who else shows. Ill hang out until about 10a then walk into town. Given the hot as hell forecast hoping to be out Noon-1p.

I took off today into a cloud of smoke. Although the reports were VFR, I question whether it actually was. I climbed to 5500 feet and soon I was in the clear. The ride to Columbia was a little bumpy due to the heat. Today's high is reported to be 100 degrees. Since we had a few hour until noon, the temp was closer to 85. It wasn't long until I was entering downwind for runway 17. I set up for a 500 FPM decent on final. As I landed I saw Mark holding a camera. (Oh no. I had on new glasses, my contacts slipped, the sun was in my eyes. The landing was a six out of ten.)
I met Mark and we took a BAC memorial photo. We left the airport and hiked to the town. We wondered around scouting for a place to grab some grub. We watched as the actors prepared for today's western show. Mark and I were wearing shorts, the actors had on jeans, chaps and leather vests. The women had on long dresses and hats. I didn't appear to be an easy life in the 1800s.
After scouting the town I asked a park ranger where we could find food. We had passed a bakery, a coffee shop and a tea shop. I wanted BACON. We were directed to a small cafe. It was nice, low key, and served a good selection of food. I changed my mind and had a short stack of pancakes. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't asked for a full stack. My plane was going to be over gross with just the short stack.
We ate and discussed vacation plans, employment and solved most of the worlds problems. We finished and decided that due to the heat we would just strike out for home.
The return trip was uneventful. The smoke had partially cleared and the afternoon thermals were just beginning. I got bounced around a mite but weathered the event until landing.
Overall not a bad day.
