Camarillo Fly-in - 2 March, 2013

I picked up 5 mph cruise with my droops, 5 mph slower clean, and 10 mph slower full flaps. Anybody wants my ratty old hoener factory tips, come get them at KSCK, or just pay the shipping.

Thanks for putting together a wonderful day at Camarillo yesterday, Marty. It's always a pleasure to spend time with one of my favorite fellows. Thanks to all who showed up yesterday. Beautiful airport/facilities, tasty lunch, and great conversation with members I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time. Hope to see you all again soon at another BAC gathering.

Joe, I put Ace Demers droop tips on my Sundowner, and was really pleased. I can't say for sure if I gained any cruise speed, but I sure didn't lose any. As for the other speeds, they were like yours. This was back in the 70s, before the weight restriction.

Thanks for the update, Candy. Are there any photos to share? How many planes? How many attendees? Details, we want details?:)

Chris, Marty will have to do the full recap with head count and airplane count. I was too busy chatting that I didn't pay too much attention except to notice that people just kept showing up.

Thanks,
Candy

Just made it home. Spent an extra day in the Central Valley visiting an old Navy buddy (12,000 hour crop duster and Mooney owner). The fly-in would have been better if everyone would have noted we were to be there at 10:00. But, per normal procedures, not everyone can be as punctual as Mel Auerbach. He beat me to Camarillo! We had a great time anyway. We had six mouses on the ramp and everyone was a Sierra! Mark and Candy arrived via ground transportation and stayed until the end in spite of the 2 1/2 hour drive home. We have pictures, but of such high definition, they have to be massaged prior to be posting on this site. But they will be there! We also picked up two new members, Ben and Darrin, partners with Garry Leemaster with the oldest flying flip-fop gear Mouse! Yeah for MC-2! These guys are excited to explore the how they can improve the first Musketeer-R to be more like the last Sierra. They have their work cut out for them! This was an 6 plane and 8 member event. Pretty good start for the first one of the year in the Southwest region. I'm already planing the next one........... unless someone beats me to it.

Great report, Marty! Thanks for a wonderful start to the flying season, especially for the southwest region! Way to go boys and girls! Wish I could have made it. We were IFR almost all day yesterday so even if I had wanted to attend I wouldn't have been able to make it. Let me know if I can help with the photos!

Marty,
Thank you for a great fly-in. I had no idea that the Cafe food was so noted in the area. I was surprised that the wait was in excess of one hour and the amount of activity at the airport. There were 4 planes on the ground waiting for take off and 4 in the air waiting to land, for almost the entire time we were there. The parking lot was full of people for both flying and for lunch. It is the busiest airport in the area, especially considering that there is no airline service there. The museum was very interesting, but what was better was the planes being restored in the hangar next to the museum. It appeared that the entire crew restoring the WW2 planes was there working, and that workshop was for me better than the museum.

Thank you again.

Rick
