Weather looking questionable for tomorrow, maybe everyone can respond in here in the morning, as to who's going?

Hi Folks,

Yeah - I'll definitely post my "go/no go" decision - here - in the AM...

I could probably do Sunday if we reach a consensus in the AM as well...

Regards,
Scott

6:55AM Saturday Block Island RI is VFR with clouds at 11,000.
Westerly is clear. Light winds.
Groton is the same.
Providence RI light winds. Clouds scattered at 15,000.
Looks like a GO flying from the North.
Dress appropriately. This is a picnic.
See you at 11:30.

Hi Tom,

Yeah - sorry - I think Jackie and I are going to pass today - KBID winds forecast 15-22 sounds like it's going to be pretty bumpy out there... Jackie would probably be miserable with her sensitive stomach - we need pretty calm winds... Don't worry about me - she has PLENTY of chores for me to tackle - especially if I want any chance of making New Hampshire next weekend... Hope you guys get a good turn out...

Regards,
Scott

SATURDAY 10/12/13 REPORT FROM BLOCK ISLAND, Rhode Island KBID

This looks to shape up as a two day event.
I was there on day one. I ate my picnic sandwich at a picnic table at the airport.

Two Sundowners were at KBID Block Island.
One was mine just out of annual.
The other was newly purchased from Alaska by student pilot John Audet who flys out of Simsbury, Connecticut. His instructor Doug Melville is a BAC member who earned a BEECH BUM Tshirt.
John plans to join BAC.

Weather kept many BACers away. My drive to the airport (from 30 northeast) was under 800' celings which cleared to 12,000 when I got to the plane. I climbed through a scattered layer approaching Providence RI. At 4,500' across the water the viz was great and the ride glass smooth. Winds on landing were 070@14 G24. Squirelly but not terrible.

Winds on departure were stronger and more gusty. The climb out was slow. After staying over the Island until I reached altitude, I crossed the water at 5,500 for safety and had to decend under the clouds to 2,000 over Newport RI. The final 20 miles to Mansfield 1B9 were under the overcast at 1,500'. I was inches from just flying the RNAV approach home. Made a great short field landing on our newly grassed runway 4.

Have fun tomorrow. Keep track of addresses and sizes for beautiful BEECH BUM Tshirts.

Hi Tom,

Hah - a fly-in and a recruitment - can you ask for anything more ?
:)

Glad you had a good flight - and by the sounds of it I made a wise choice skipping today... Nothing worse than passing - and - then hearing conditions were ideal...

I'm still not sure what I'm doing tomorrow - however - I'll post here with whatever we decide...

Regards,
Scott

I wound up passing today, cuz when I looked at the radar this morning there was a line of storm over Long Island. Went flying later on over the Jersey shore, and it was smooth as glass at 1,000 ft.

Hi Ken,

Yeah - we're not going to be able to make it today - we'll shoot for New Hampshire next weekend...

Regards,
Scott
