Tom Turner to be Guest Speaker at the BACFest 2009 Banquet on Saturday, October 17

You may recognize his name from FLYING LESSONS or the Weekly Accident Update reports, but Tom Turner has so much more to offer.

Holder of an ATP certificate with instructor, CFII and MEI ratings, a Masters Degree in Aviation Safety, and 2008 FAA Central Region CFI of the Year, Master CFI Thomas P. Turner has been Lead Instructor for FlightSafety International's Bonanza pilot training program at the Beechcraft factory; production test pilot for engine modifications; aviation insurance underwriter; corporate pilot and safety expert; Captain in the United States Air Force; and contract course developer for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He now manages education and technical services for a 10,000-member pilots' organization. With over 3500 hours logged, including more than 2200 as an instructor, Tom writes, lectures and instructs extensively from his home at THE AIR CAPITAL--Wichita, Kansas. For more information on Tom Turner, visit www.thomaspturner.net

As of today (Oct. 1), we have 44 members and 68 total attendees signed up for BACFest. As a reminder, Thursday, October 1 is the deadline for the early registration fee. Registration and payment must be submitted by then to receive the $75 member rate.

If you would like to rent a vehicle during your stay, Enterprise is offering discounted rates and will deliver your car to the FBO for pickup and drop off. Phone Enterprise at 865-908-3044 and ask for Jonathan. Be sure to advise him you are with Beech Aero Club. Rates are $45, $47 and $50 for intermediate, standard and full size vehicles, respectively.

The Annual BACFest Banquet - Saturday, October 17

Not only will Tom Turner be on hand, but so will fellow BAC member Gene Nora Jessen, last year's banquet speaker. For those unfamiliar with Gene Nora, in the summer and fall of 1962 she was one of three pilots who crossed the USA in a 3-airplane formation introducing the new Beech Musketeer to the world. The Fabulous Fight of the Three Musketeers is a compilation of her memoirs of that experience.

And if great food, great drink and great camaraderie aren't enough, a number of vendors and members have contributed items for door prizes Saturday night. Bogi-bars, SpeedCoat, oil filters, BACFest memorabilia and apparel will all be given away. Must be present to win, so don't be left out!

BAC Banquet- 2009

1st time attending.......wife wants to know dress?

The attire for BAC events is just nice casual. No party dresses and certainly nothing formal. Evenings may be a little cool, so you might want to bring a light jacket.

For the reception Thursday evening......in the past folks have brought their favorite bottle or bottles of local wine to share. Not really a requirement, just fun to do. Sometimes it's not even a bottle of wine that is local to their area!!! It's bottles of something else. Ha Ha! Watch out for the ladies though as they do have fun... Sometime I wonder who BacFest is really for...Hmmmm
Additionally, a cash bar will be available both Thursday and Saturday nights.

Beechcraft Heritage Museum on Thursday, October 15.

We are planning a fly-out to Tullahoma, TN (KTHA) to visit the Museum and have lunch at a restaurant in town. Tullahoma is 136 nm west of Gatlinburg. For all those wishing to attend, we will depart KGKT between 10 & 10:30 and plan to arrive at KTHA between 11:30 and noon. We will have transportation into town for lunch then back to the Museum to marvel at all the Staggerwings, Beech 18s, Bonanzas, Barons, et al. We'll depart KTHA and head back to KGKT and Oak Tree Lodge for the reception Thursday evening beginning at 5:30.

It sounds like we may have some "in transit" attendees meet up with us in Tullahoma before heading on to Gatlingburg. I will send an email to all registered attendees to see how many are interested in making the flight to Tullahoma.

Attendance Update

As of October 5, we have 49 members and 76 total attendees registered for BACFest. Myrtle Beach was the previous record with 50 members and 75 total attendees.

To see who all has registered go to BACFest 2009 discussion forum and read the very first posting. The names of those registered are listed there.

For the flyout to the Beechcraft Heritage Museum, we have 20 attendees and 10 airplanes planning to make the trip on Thursday.

Ten days and counting..............
