BACFest 2017

We arrived in New Bedford (commercial into KPVD) Saturday afternoon. The folks at Hampton Inn are very accommodating and the room is fine. The two restaurants where we ate (The BlackWhale and The Cove) were excellent.

I am pretty sure the wind in the hospitality suit will keep Jose headed East.

Tom an Majorie have put many hours in this, so come on out and support their efforts.

Dave & Jane

Steffi an d I will you Wednesday night after a quick trip to Rhode Island to visit my 92 year young cousin
Ok to start without me !

We moved our departure to Thursday. Hampton was easy to deal with and I'm rescheduling the rental car this morning.

Dealing with Jose and the potential for 50 mph wind gusts. I should have played it safe and moved 08Romeo yesterday but forecast called for 20mph winds. Scrambling to get moved off the ramp and into a hangar but I'll have to fly in the crap today to New Jersey.

I MISS MY HANGAR!

Linda and I arrived at Providence Saturday and drove to New York City. Sunday we saw World Trade Center Observation Deck and Museum, Times Square, and the Broadway play Wicked. Will go back today and see what else happens. Doesn't look like Jose is going tu be much more than a heavy rain storm along the coast, but the weather predictors still say it could come ashore. We will keep a close watch on it. Still think by Thursday afternoon it will be gone.

Folks-

I just checked my route-of-flight for BACFest... It appears there will be a TFR through September 22. Here is a snippet of the TFR... I think I need to plan a different route...

Changed my route to include a peek at the Newport airport... Planning on leaving Pottstown, PA at about 7AM to arrive New Bedford (KEWB) around 9AM. Would like to make the Martha's Vineyard luncheon...

Tom C.,

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the BACfest events as have a business trip on Thurs, and wedding on Saturday. Can you advise what time everyone's landing on Friday at Newport? I think I might be able to make that. It would be nice to meet some of the people who are always on the forums.

Thx,
Dave

The Hudson River corridor is definitely off limits as it's part of the 7 mile "no-fly" zone. Trump is staying in Trump Tower the next 3 days.

Dave Falandys ET AL,

The Newport plan is to leave KEWB about 9am on Friday. The whole flight is less than 1/2 hour. Many may be detouring to the 3 State Challenge adding another 60 minutes to the flight. Some will be flying to Martha's Vineyard enroute (add 1/2 hour). There will be no festivities at the KUUU airport. Instead, our vehicles will be available to get you and take you to the Newport stops: Airport, Breakers (mansion), Visitor Center (waterfront/shopping), Ocean Drive (Point Brenton State Park). Our vehicles will take you back to the airport. Those not flying will use club vehicles for round trip to Newport (commercial bus and vans plus member rented cars). Dinner Friday at Waterfront Grille, New Bedford 6:30pm.

Now at Paul's home enjoying cheese and crackers. Life is good at Virginia Beach !! :D

Also got a tour of the hangar and the Sierra. Sweet.

The Sundowner and I arrived in Plainville, Ct last Friday from North Carolina. Have been visiting my sister. Looks like Jose will interfere with my flight Wednesday so will drive from Ct to BACFest. See Y'all there!!

Arrived at the hotel yesterday, Monday evening at 7:42pm. Decided early on to drive to the event this year. Stopped at Frederick, MD on the way out Sunday evening. Visited the AOPA headquarters Monday morning to see a friend. Checked out their Sierra.

Well, after only missing one BACfest, a few months after joining BAC in 2005, it is with a heavy heart that I have cancelled my reservations for BACfest 2017. I know Tom has done everything to make this one for the record books.

I will sincerely miss you all. But I have been partying down with BAC members here in the Southwest, flying over the mountains & deserts and punching out my BFR in a beautiful Sierra C24R this past weekend. We are partying BAC style on the opposite corner of the country and we are with you in spirit!!!

But wdnd5960, the vendors around EWB had already stocked up on McRribs and Patron shots! Seriously, though, you will be missed, always a highlight of BACFest. I have not forgotten, I owe you a ride; next year at BACFest, perhaps sooner.

Bob

Another POTUS TFR was issued today, it goes through Sunday, 9/24. The good news is that it is a Bedminster, NJ TFR, so the Hudson River corridor may be accessible again. I haven't read the details yet, so make sure it has the wording regarding the Hudson exclusion.

Unforeseeable events will delay my arrival to Friday, hopefully by Beech, possibly by airline. Save me a seat at dinner Friday.

Talking to NY tracon will get you the up to date info if you want to fly the Hudson.
And now I am bummed about WDND not attending.

Indeed, we will miss you Bill.

For anyone here or nearby, we are checked in to the Hampton already, as are Muses.

VFR is only ~100 miles away if anyone gets close but not quite there, we can work out rides and fetches.

We're here now. Had trouble with the rental car - really noisy brakes and a hard pull to the right. But settled in now. Room 303.
