Yippie! The Flying Dutchman is going to BAC Fest. It took a little arm twisting, but it worked. He is flying to ATL then we are both flying up in N18859.
Doug
Yes, Marty is comming to BACfest. He sent me an email, to inform me he was moving into my room. I said, "Wait just a minute, let me see if get a room with 2 bunks first!" Ya gotta love, Marty! He never met a stranger!
I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive about sharing a room. It'll be the first time I've bunked with a Marine. But after bunking in close quarters with up to 55 others on the Hancock and other boats we used fly on and off, this should be a piece of cake. Semper Fi, Bill! Dan, I only have one arm in a sling. No worries there, I'm an ambidextrous drinker.
Nothing like the military to get you over all of your inhibitions. So, funny to hear my sons complain, they do not mind showering, sleeping and using the restroom in a large open room full of guys, but they both hate the ship board concept of 'hot cotting'. LOL. When I was younger, I guess, I would sleep anywhere. And I was always happy to get some sleep.
The hotel was very gracious in changing my room reservation.
Several people had expressed concern about flooding or damage in Ithaca. While parts of western NY got hit (Oswego County), the general Ithaca/Thompkins County area is untouched or repaired.
I can tell you this...bring sweaters and/or jackets. The nights this week have been unseasonably cold (30 deg last night). The days will range from 60-80.
Minnie put the gris gris on the Sierra. I took Minnie for a spin this am and puller her up close to the Sierra so I could put the Sierra in the hangar where Minnie had been and put Minnie on the ramp and the Sierra wouldn't start. Couldn't hardly get a click. After messing with her all day, testing the battery and finally a liberal application of Corrosion X and ball been hammer to the starter and solenoid she fired up. But Minnie wouldn't give up the hangar. Maybe next weekend we'll make the swap.
You are my hero, I think??? You go out and purchase a 'new' Sierra, years after you retire, while the rest of us are trying to hang on to the sides of the toilet bowl during the double flushing of our assets over the last three years.
You are not getting any sympathy from me, with your sad tales of woe. Having trouble with your Sierra? Owning two aircraft?? While being retired??? Not a single tear, will I shed for you and your woeful circumstances. My friend.
Maybe an old pelt skinner, could share a few of his tricks, for us 'wana bes'? LOL!
Be sure to park your SIERRA down the ramp with the 'Proud Crowd'. What does it feel like to be seen in that new Sierra? What's it like to taxi by the lowly? To play airline captain on takeoff, saying in a deep confident tone, "500 feet, Positive rate of climb, Gear up, Flaps up! Do you make these call outs even when your flying alone, do you??? I thought, so.
I look forward to seeing you soon! Congratulations!! Enjoy the ride!!!
What ever gave you the impression I'm retired. You have me confused with Linderman. I'm still a working stiff. Probably will be for another ten years or so unless I either win the lottery or develop an affinity for garderning and house work.
Actually coming home from Delaware I almost forgot to put the gear UP. I think I was over 1,000 feet before it dawned on me that I needed to retract the gear. I'm still learning and getting used to it.
Remind me to keep my nose in the air when I taxi past you at KITH.
