BAC To Barnes

OK, SPRING IS HERE; I JUST SAW A ROBIN!!
(Well, it was dead, frozen in a melting snowbank. But I saw it!)

Time to come back to Barnes, Westfield MA (KBAF) for our annual Fly-In.
Saturday, April 12 (plenty of time to get home and fill out that tax return). Plan on arriving 0930 to 1000 (but I will be there from 0800 on) and depart whenever the clouds get too menacing for your comfort level.

Still no decision on where we will eat...depends on how many folks say they are coming. The options I am contemplating are a cookout on the deck at Five Star Jet Center or I will treat you to a meal in the new restaurant in the new terminal building.

I am working on a tour of the Air Guard facility on field. They recently had their beloved A-10 "Hogs" taken away. But our Senator Kennedy is very efficient and killed two birds with one stone. He got our 104th some (not very) new F-15's with which to patrol the skies.
And because he stole those noisy jets away from the Guard unit on Cape Cod, he got a lot of appreciation from his wealthy Hyannis neighbors!

Anyway, usual precautions re Wx, skydivers to the north and east, don't land at either of the other two big airports (CEF, 5 miles east, has BIG green C-5's and BDL, 9 miles south, has BIG shiny airliners. They all look alike with similar runway arrangements.)

In the past we (I) have pulled the plug on fly-ins because of dicey weather in the area. New interpretation of the BAC rules: You are all big boys and girls and can decide on you own if it is safe to come in. The show goes on unless we get a late blizzard or early hurricane.

Let me know ASAP if you are coming.

Cloyd,

I've never made you proud before. Are you up to something or are you slipping?

I never thought of mileage from Canada. Thanks for the suggestion.

If I had known you were going to have such a wonderful menu, I would have been there.

Where is CT? Is that the little state squeezed between Rhode Island and New York... just under Massachusetts?

Or is it one of those places that makes you eat grits? Yuk!

Tom,
If this makes any difference, I heard from Steve Thomas in Ontario. He's planning on coming.

Well, OK, boys and girls,
The forecast for Saturday doesn't look too thrilling at the moment, rain. But holding to my New Year's Resolution, we will have the BAC to BAF fly-in anyway.
You are all, we hope, pilots of judgment and perspicacity (that's the ability to see through the plastic of a Spitfire's window, I believe). If you think it is a feasible flight...c'mon down.
But if you feel you will be pushing your limits, take a deep breath and be realistic about it. Won't hurt my feelings if discretion beats valor.

In any case, anyone arriving should tell the Tower/Ground you are here for the Beech event and they will point you north along Taxiway Alpha to exit A-1. You will see me/us there to park you. (Pay no attention to the Cardinal or the Arrow...they're nice folks...just confused about airplanes.)
