BAC Picnic on the Flightline at EAA is Tuesday July 29th!!!

Our count in now up to thirty attendees!

Remember if you are attending AirVenture, we will have a shuttle from Gate E01 to Larry's house. We'd like to pick you up between 1:30 and 2:00 PM. Gate E01 is at the South end of AirVenture, so it may take you a while to get there. This is the same gate the bus to the seaplane base picks up passengers. You can walk if you are feeling energetic, or take one of the John Deere trolleys to the gate. The trolleys are often full, so plan ahead. Obviously we will pick you up earlier or later, but try to make it between those times.

See ya at the picnic!

There is a map of the gate, shuttle route and Larry's location and address in the East Central Photo Gallery.

I sent a check for $20 yesterday... and that means that I and probably Darren Tilman will be seeing you.

Many thanks for organizing the picnic... great idea.

Robin Thomas

Robin, it's great that you and Darren can make it! Are you flying the Sundowner to Oshkosh by any chance?

We are up to 36 registered attendees!

Nearly last update before the BAC picnic

Just a few reminders. The shuttle is scheduled from 1:30 to 2:00 from Gate E01 of AirVenture. It is located at the South end of the grounds and is the same gate the Seaplane Base Shuttle uses if you need to ask directions. It takes a while to get to the gate, especially if the trams are full, so plan ahead. We will try to make early and late pickups, but try to be there on time. Don't forget the map and address is located in the Photo Gallery under East Central Fly-ins. My cell if any questions, early/late pickup, etc. is 414-397-8215.

PowerFlow Systems will be there and will be giving us an update on what's going on at PowerFlow and Laminar Systems (SpeedPants). They will have examples of their new LED landing/taxi lights.

If DHL delivers as promised, I will have a few copies of the new hardcopy BAC Talk for you to peruse. They are supposed to arrive on Monday.

Remember, it's Tuesday the 29th, starting at 2:00PM!!!!

We'll have some chairs that go with the tables, but bring your own lawn chairs if you have them and can get them to the picnic without too much trouble! Blankets to sit on might be good, too.

Candy and I are going to have to un-RSVP for Tuesday. Events at work are pulling me back to California for the 7th week out of 8. I've got my return flight direct into MKE to meet Candy on Thursday. So we'll be there for Friday but won't make the picnic :-(...

Mark

Mark, I'm sorry to hear you and Candy won't make the picnic, but I understand how work can get in the way...

Give me a buzz on Friday or Saturday; at least we can meet up and say 'hello'. Do you have a rental car reserved? They can be scarce even in Milwaukee that week.

I'm driving over to Milwaukee on Thursday to meet Mark so we won't need a rental car. But thanks for the tip. Everything seems to be hard to find the week of Air Show. I guess that means that the interest in aviation is still alive and well! What's your cell phone number so we can give you a call on Friday? Or, you can send it my email or Mark's email listed in our profiles. Have a great time on Tuesday!

Candy

My cell is 414-397-8215. I'll be at OSH on Saturday for sure, probably Friday as well. I work at Helicopter Operations from 2:30 to 8:00PM on Saturday, but will also be there in the morning.

See you at OSH!

Wow! More details tomorrow, but we had a blast! We lost control and not everyone signed in, but we had about 45 people at the picnic, including Harold Bost and John Parish from the Beechcraft Heritage Museum, and Robin Thomas and Darren Tillman from PowerFlow Systems, with their new LED landing and taxi lights. We started at 1:30 and there were still people sitting around the campfire when I left about 8:30!

Awesome place to hold a picnic! Ever have a Harrier jump-jet fly directly over your head full-bore at 300 feet? Many thanks to Larry and Debbie Last for hosting.

Same time and place next year!

Bob-

Congratulations on a great event! Sure sounds like everyone had a wonderful time and the turn out was fantastic! I am going to be there next year come hell or higher gas prices!

Extra large thanks to Debbie and Larry Last for their hospitality!

Great photos posted in East Cental gallery, too! Again, congratulations and here's to an even bigger turn-out in 2009!

Bob,

I enjoyed the pictures but the audio of Darren's Power Flow update was poor.

What did he have to say?

Cloyd

Turn up the volume!

The really new announcement was the LED landing/taxi lights. Robin brought his prototype and a sample of the production light, which has the same form factor (shape) as the standard light. He is offering the first light for $400, the second for $350, with a lifetime warranty (as long as you own the airplane). the ability to make them pulse on and off is standard, but requires an extra wire (and switch), otherwise it uses the standard wiring. Robins advise is to turn them on and leave them on for collision avoidance because of the reduced power requirement for the LED lights. The paperwork has been submitted for the Baby Beeches first, but has not yet been approved. Hopefully Robin will chime in if I've gotten anything wrong here.
