BAC Fullerton Fly-In....Southern California

CalifDan

Orbiting Earth
I will be attending the Southern California Fly-in arriving in Friday, departing Sunday. I will have the Southwest banner with me.

Who else is going and what days so Jeanne can get an idea for planning?

Dan Jonas, Southwest RD

I'm going to try to come but schedule is still up in the air. Actually, based at FUL, so transportation should be less of an issue...

Hi all, I am planning on attending Saturday. The wings class on flying in LA sounds good. Flying in LA is always an adventure for me still! See you all soon!

Places to stay in Fullerton

I have had feedback about people wanting to know where to stay. If a group of you want to stay at the same place for convenience and fellowship, I will look for a recommendation. Looking forward to meeting new folks!

If I can get 12 or more to commit to dinner on Saturday Night, I can make reservations at the Knott's Berry Farm Chicken Dinner Resauraunt.

So far I have

Dan Jonas
Steve Frieson
Rich Kutzner
Me
Jeff Gurnee (my husband)
Conway & Wife

Maybe:
Skip MacLean
Dennis McGoldrick

Anyone bringing anyone else and is anyone else planning on comming?

Jeanne,

I will be there. Pam cannot make it this trip. We have a new baby dog, and decorating for the nephew's graduation from college.

I booked at the Radisson Anaheim Maingate, which was the wrong one Radisson, but it is not that far from the airport (about 6 miles). I thought I was booking at the one on Beach Blvd... kind of appropriate for a Beech fly-in, but oh well, I booked the wrong one. There is a cancellation charge, so I’m staying put.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing ya'll There!

Dinner

Jeanne,

Count me in for dinner (1 person). My understanding is without a reservation we would have to wait to be seated and that can be long?

Dan Jonas

Yes Dan, I have a back-up plan, but it requires a longer drive and I wasn't sure how many would need rides to and from. It is a place called Buster's Beach House, on the water and they have a 3 person band called FLYER :) that plays starting around 8:30pm. They have been playing there 20+ years. Food is good and reasonable.

Transportation

Jeanne,

I will have a rental car while I am there and will do whatever you need to help with transportation other tasks. I'm there to help you make this work as well as possible.

Dan Jonas

It is Friday folks!, And GORGEOUS outside! Anyone that may come for the beach that I have not emailed or spoken to, here is my cel number.... 562 522-9458. I will be at Compton Airport this am to work on the plane (it is in annual) and later at the beach. I will check in here before I leave for the beach.

Saturdays plans are coming together-hope to see those of you that could make it there! Should be a beautiful weekend despite the fires :)

Jeanne,

Good luck with your event this weekend. Glad you have good weather. Take and post lots of pix. Sounds like you've put a lot of work into this.

To all my friends in the southwest who are going to the Fullerton-fly-in, I can't make it down there this time, so have a good time and I'll see you at the next fly-in

Still Time

Still time to make it to Fullerton for those nearby. Great dinner and friendship last night. Wings seminar today. Maybe a side trip to Aircraft Spruce. Dinner tonight. Get here!!

Southern California Fly-in

The Southern California Fly-in is over. Southern California member Jeanne did a great job hosting the event. We had a total of five members and one prospective member show up. A few of us were there for all three days, some just came in for Saturday and/or Friday barbecue.

I'll let the others speak for themsleves, but I had a great time.

I want to say a special word here for AFI (the FBO at Fullerton Airport). Their hospitality was beyond belief. They provided refreshments for us on Saturday morning, and put on the Wings Seminar (no cost) using their facilities and instructor. This would be a nice gesture if one of our members did their training there, but in fact, there is no such relationship. This is definitely a place that I would return and hope that any other members looking for a good place to spend a few days while visiting southern California will give them your business.

These gatherings are really fun. Jeanne and her husband Jeff introduced a few of us to a great dinner / lounge / rock band on Saturday night. We hung out a little this morning at the Fullerton Open House and aircraft display and then headed for home.

Thanks again to Jeanne and husband Jeff (and kids) for the backyard barbecue, good conversation and putting up with us all weekend.

Dan Jonas

Dan-It was truly our pleasure. I was a surprised/pleased as you at how great AFI treated us. I have passed on our thanks to my friend that introduced us to AFI in the first place.

I was looking forward to this past weekend with some excitement mixed with a little dread. :) Not even having been to a fly-in, I was not sure how to make one a success. But all the folks I met this weekend made it easy, fun and fairly relaxing overall.

I cannot wait to visit and meet new folks at a fly-in in the future and neither can Jeff-and that's a big deal!

Thanks again!

Jeanne, I wanted to add my congratulations as well. Wish it wasn't so far out that way for weekend events.

Jeanne,
Thanks again to all who put on the fly-in, and for a good day at KFUL. It was a pleasure meeting some new folks and seeing some familiar faces, fun checking out some other members planes, and the wings class was very informative.
