Aug 17 - Danielson Airport (KLZD)

As tempting as Johnny Cakes sound, unfortunately, I can't make this one. I guess it's time to announce some news. After 33 years and raising three kids here, my wife and I are moving out of NY state to Maine to be closer to two of our kids. N750TH is presently sitting in her new home at Pittsfield Municipal Airport (2B7) in Maine. Unfortunately, I am still in NY, packing up for the movers who come in a week. Believe me when I say I'd rather be flying tomorrow than sorting through 33 years of accumulated crap here.

In addition to being happy about finding hangar space for my "creampuff", I'm pleased I will remain in the Northeast Region under the able RD leadership of Tom Corcoran. I should qualify for a BeechBum T-shirt for that!

Hi Glenn,

Sorry you can't make it - but - the move sounds cool - well other than the actual logistics of the "moving" part... While I'm not sure I'll ever enjoy a real retirement - both Jackie and I have Maine in the back of our heads... One of Jackie's favorite pastimes is using my iPad to look at real estate... Kind of a coincidence - there was a beautiful lake home for sale on Sebec Lake for a reasonable price a few weeks ago... We half heartedly wanted to go check it out... Of course I started looking for the nearest airports that might be suitable for that location - Pittsfield was one of them... My parents already live in Boothbay Harbor so Maine is pretty comfortable for us... I checked out the sat view of your new home (airport) - I guess you're pretty lucky to have a hangar - as the airport doesn't appear to have many available...

Hmm - I bet Tom would send you a Beech Bum shirt if you volunteered for the Airboss of Maine position - I think it's vacant ???
:)

Get settled and call a fly-in for Maine - I could make the fly-in and see my parents in one shot...
;)

Regards,
Scott

Scott,

First, I bought my Sierra in Maine. Great seafood, and the people are .... polite. However, it was April just after Easter and there still was snow on the ground. They were still ice-fishing on the lakes. I mention to the chief mechanic that this seemed like a pretty harsh spring. He said "Yeah, we get 7 months of winter.... and 5 months of crappy weather". I've heard that the week of summer up there was real nice..... in some years. Did you ever wonder why most retiree's head South?

Retirement? I'm not recommending that unless you can do it early while you're still strong. There's a lot of work in retirement. I miss my ex-fulltime cushy job. Good pay, great benefits and only 8 hrs of work for most days and weekends off. If you have something like that, hold on to it as long as you can. Social Security will be a dream for you, so invest heavily in an IRA or 401K.

Darn@&%$, really wanted to make this one, but something came up. Does it count if we go there next Sat?

Ken Cook generates a lot of interest when he organizes a fly-in. It's early Sunday morning here in the Atlantic Time Zone so I have no reports from Danielson CT as yet.
Stev Coty had to work. But it's an aviation job so we cut him slack.
Peter Donofrio can't make it. I know the feeling Peter. Yes you can fly to Danielson next week. Or any week there after.
Glenn Castner is moving to Maine. You've fallen right into my hands Glenn. We will talk later.
Scott Brunner doesn't eat seafood and may buy a vacation home in Maine. There's a lot of moose meat in Maine Scott. Own a gun?
Mart Vanover is giving free retirement advice as part of the Connecticut fly-in conversation. Thanks Marty, we needed that.
Now we all know how to make Johnny Cakes. Cabinets are milkshakes for Connecticut Ken, in Boston they are frappes. Our grinders are sub sandwiches and our soda is tonic.
I better get back to the United States pretty soon. You guys are out of control expecially that Eric Grill from Pennsylvania.
And big BAC news... John Persinger and Allen White are requiring eapis filings to enter the BAC MidAtlantic region.

Tom Corcoran on beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada

Hi Marty,

All good advice - yeah - I know - I know - but it's the best place on the East Coast to get AWAY from people... Other than my hobby's - I try to avoid people... I swear the state is a ghost town in the Winter...
;)

Hi Peter,

Ken and I were talking about meeting again before BACfest - how about dinner at Oxford ???

Hi Tom,

We missed you and your grouchy uncanny sense of humor (another good post that had us laughing here in NY)... Are you Regional Director of Canada - or what - LOL ??? Hope to see you making some of the Northeast fly-ins - sir...
:)

That's the great thing about this club - we talk about EVERYTHING !!!

It was a great fly-in - even had Nathan Franks - could you ask for anything more ? Oh shoot - and - I lost my Johnny Cakes - I can't find them anywhere - arrgh...

Regards,
Scott

Johnny Cakes and Nathan Franks ?? Sounds like a couple names from an Austin Powers movie. Look forward to seeing everyone at BACFEST. If you haven't registered please do. it is going to be a great time.

That's fine, but Oxford is no fun, I don't even get to untie my plane. BAF would be about in the middle, but someone said the restaurant is closed?

Hi Peter,

Yeah - after reading the work you did on your plane - I completely understand...

Here is what the "Fly To Lunch" site show centered around KOXC which seems pretty close to the mid point...
