Arlington Flyin & BAC Type Club tent

Marty,
I searched for the recommendations online, only found a couple and have posted their website adresses/links in the news item about the Fly-in. If you want to just email me with what you have, I can post them as direct links.

And regarding your comment:
Yes, there is some nice places in Mount Vernon, but it's not just up the road.

Well I have been known to fly from here in far eastern Oregon for no other reason than the $100 hamburger (actually Ribs and beer @SRB) and an overnight! So the piddly drive from Arlington won't stop me!!

Thom,

I can e-mail you the links if you like. But, I'll need an address to do so. As far as a place to eat, don't matter to me, I'll drive anywhere for good food. You guys drink the beer.

What's John's post mean? Paid up? Does having a EAA membership get you in? I have one, but it only got me a buck off the admission to S-n-F. If it does mean I'll have access, then I wouldn't need a pass either. However, it may be useful to get a vehicle pass to transport "volunteer members" as necessary.

When you said you had 7 volunteers and only 5 passes I thought you meant gate and parking passes . Sorry.

john.

I don't know about the cost differences between camping, RVing, and general admission, but with our space rent, we also get 5 full week passes to the event. I don't know any more than that. BAC is willing to pick up the tab for any other table volunteers (we have 7), so I need to know how many need a pass, so as to know how many more to buy. And since there are different rates for fly-in/drive-in/RVing/Camping, some may have already made their arrangements and therefore not needing a pass.

Ok, I guess I'll need a pass. If you have to buy one for me, it will be for flying-in. I plan to arrive Tuesday and leave the plane there until Sunday, if the weather is good. If the weather is bad, I'll leave the airplane East of the Cascades and drive in.

Just got some clarification from the Arlington staff regarding the NOTAM and arrival procedures. Best way to share is to quote: (by the way, the bold/italic emphasis is mine)

Hi Thom,

Lets take the NOTAM question first. You do not have to fly the green line on page nine. You may fly direct to Green Valley on Friday and Saturday arrivals. All other days you can fly direct to Arlington.

The majority of our arrivals come from the south up the west side so we put a suggested route for those. Any one can fly direct to Green Valley, be aware that we know traffic can be heavy on the routes depicted in the NOTAM.

Regarding the passes, if I understand your question correctly you will receive five weekly admission tickets with your vendor booth. There is no charge for camping UNDER the wing of an airplane, but there is a charge for camping in the RV/Tent campground and that is not covered in your booth fee.

We look forward to having you at Arlington this year and anything we can do to assist you please don't hesitate to ask.

For your pilots who will be flying in and camping under the wing we will have "grill stations" available in the aircraft parking areas for them to cook on. This will eliminate the need to bring the 'grill' as part of the camping packing. Hopefully save them some weight to take home goodies they may find here.

Take care,

Barbara Tolbert

I guess this takes a lot of the confusion and uncertainty out of it, at least for me.

We have an offer by the Executive Director of the Arlington Fly-in to join them on Wednesday at 5:30 for eats and drinks, on the house. If I could get an idea how many will already be on site, and whether or not anyone wants to participate (fairly soon) I will RSVP for us. Here's the invitation as I received it:

That's 4 so far (I am assuming no spouses?). I will wait a couple of days and go with what we have at that time.

As an aside, has everyone got contingency plans for bad weather? We still need the assured presence of enough bodies to man the table per our agreement with the staff in Arlington..... I was thinking about Marty's comment about parking on the west side of the cascades and renting a car (for us VFRers if it turns out IFR that week). I am going to get my travel trailer ready "just in case". Certainly not my first choice tho!

Thanx for the responses.

Thom
If you need I reserved 2 spots last year 1 for my trailer and 1 for my truck so if you bring your trailer you can park it in my truck spot.

John

Thanx John,
If it comes to that, I may take you up on it.... I am kinda long .... A Ram 3500 Dually with a 26' (pull) trailer BARELY makes it into a 50' spot. So I tentatively have a spot at a "park" close to the airport... but I won't know for sure until the very end of the month. Problem is that I have also booked a full week at a motel....not cheap! That and a car rental makes this an expensive trip already. But if I need to drive due to the weather, I will be open/desperate for anything I can get!

So.. we will see! Thanx

Wow, I just realized you have a long drive. Are you on the east banks of the Cottonwood? Love that country!

Thom
My wife would like to come along Wed. with me if you haven't made plans . Also are you going to bring along some club hats and shirts to buy if you have them.

John.

Thom
by the way I am on the east side fo the Cottonwood I can Google it for you when I come down.

For Dinner at the Exhibitor's Reception we have :

  • Thom Smith
  • Marty Manover
  • Chris Linderman
  • John & Judy Radysh

I'll need all names soon, by the 29th at the latest. I may have to RSVP some extras, and I hate to do that and not fill them, but there has been little response. If any (reading this and planning to be at Arlington) are NOT wanting to attend, it may be good to know that.

I will contact Prez about some hats, shirts and stuff.... I have none, and time is getting short!

Hello to all....

I guess I've totally spaced it when it comes BAC and the Arlington Fly-in! I've been way too busy to even think about fun flying things... not good, especially when I think I'm the guy who suggested it?!?

I live in Frontier Air Park which is right next door to Arlington and I ALWAYS attend everyday of it and plan to again this year. I know the best spots to park if you like to be closest to the flight line and all the action. Usually this is the eastern most front row facing the runway and at the north end of the row.

I'll try to check in with the site every few days if I can. I know the area very well and can answer any questions you guys might have. I should be back in town the day before and get the plane down Wednesday morning. My wife and I plan on camping there, we just enjoy the experience :)

Tom, it's great to see that you've been able to get this up and going!! I'm impressed. Should be fun and I'm looking forward to
meeting all of you and putting some faces to the names.... Now all we have to do is get some good weather ordered up!!!

Mark Hoskins

I'm sure I should be able to fill in at the BAC table for those of you that would like more of a break. We can discuss this on Wednesday or day by day as things progress.....
