Arlington Flyin & BAC Type Club tent

Ben .
If tere is a few of us that are flying in ,they will put all the airplans in one spot together and if someone is camping they can watch the airplans at night . If you tell them you want the beech club parking by the tents or main roadway you can get a shuttle to the breakfast table and showers . I can try to organize it .

John.

Our prez Chris is planning to fly out on the 10th, so I would like to propose a dinner (on BAC) for all the volunteers helping out in the BAC type club booth during a time that will allow him to be there. So that may require a Thursday evening if he is leaving early on the 10th. So, not knowing the area all that well, I am asking for any recommendations from any in the know.

I really like the Skagit River Brewery in Mt Vernon, it is a must do if you are anywhere near. They have perhaps the best BBQ ribs I've ever had, lots of pizzas, burgers, and other BBQ stuff, not to mention some very nice microbrews! I know that 88Q will be towards the aft CG on the way home, if you follow my drift!

Anyway, I am open to ideas, so..... what do you think?

Thom.
I phoned Arlington and asked if we could get parking for about 5 airplanes and we need them all together in one spot I also told them there will be some of us camping with them and we needed them close to the exhibition tents. She told me it might take a couple of days but she will phone me back. Oh and by the way I dont know a good resturant close by, any thing is good for me.

John.

Great, did you talk to Betty? She's been real helpful on my end. Keep me posted on your progress, and thanx for the help!

Hey guys,

This is my old stomping grounds. I had my Stinson at KAWO for 9 years. There are good restaurants within 20 minutes drive. The Everett waterfront has about 4 nice places to eat. Seafood is pretty much the theme, but you can get your beef and such at most places. There is a little artsy fartsy town on the way to Mount Vernon called La Conner. It's right on the Skagit river. Some excellent restaurants there. My favorites are in Mukilteo, a bit of a drive, but not farther than La Conner.

Thom, I'll get back to you on the places to stay. Dinner's been called!

Ok.... I have a question to throw out there for all you that have perused the "NOTAM" for the Arlington Fly-in. The instructions for the VFR arrival procedures on page 6 states:

Proceed inbound to the airport via routes depicted on the accompanying map. NO straight-ins, base legs, or midfield downwind entries.

Here is the map (found on page 9):

ArlingtonApproach.jpg

Question is..... is the only allowable arrival procedure: you must fly the green line which would men flying to Whidbey and then eastward over the Puget Sound regardless of where you are inbound from.... or can you fly direct to the Green Valley Airport (WA25) and then proceed on the approach that will be used?

What say you?

Hi guys .I talked to Barbra about group parking and she needs to know how many are flying in and to get the parking I would like to get they need to get us parked early, because the ground crew will be to busy to get us in there . Its meant for people how are camping and they have BBQ pits there so you dont have to bring one . She said to fly in on Tuesday and get settled in, its going to get very busy. Also if anyone is flying in from Canada US Customs are setting up there on Wednesday so if you come earlyer you will have to go through customs at another airport. So get back to me and I will phone her with the numbers. It would be nice if we could all park together, and dont forget I will have my truck there so I could give you a lift into town if you need anything .

Sounds good to me... we're traveling light...as far as camping goes. It'd be nice to pick some things up when we get there. So I might take you up on that offer.

Thom
I'd say (without having glanced at the NOTAM yet), that your best bet is to fly the whole appproach. I think that's what they mean when they say no straight-in, base or downwind entry's. So I'd plan to fly the whole route, but call the tower early and hope they fit me in more conveniently. But I'm only going off of the map...

Ben

Dido Chris, it should be fun. I'm trying to recruit some friends to come camp with me. Is anyone else planning to camp?

John, I can't make it in on Tuesday... but the bbq pit sounds nice. Will you be there to save the spot? Will I be able to get the plane in there when I arrive on Wed. evening or Thurs. morning?

Ben

Ben
I have to get back to them with how many are comming .I think I'm going to tell them 5 air planes aand go from there. She told me to tell everyone to be there Mon. or early Tues. I will see what they say if you come in late.

John

I was planning to arrive on Wednesday morning (before noon). Surely they will hold parking space for us to be together.

John,
I think I would let them know we are a type club WITH an exhibit in the main tent, and that for recruiting issues we need as many together as they can hold for as long as they can. Five may be OK, but .... what if?

Hey guys,

I been offered the use of a Suburban for the week. Anyone need a ride? Looks like I'll fly in on Tuesday, I gotta take the Soccer Mom (and Dad) to dinner before she leaves and hands the keys to that bodacious Chevy over to me. Be great to be back in the PacNorWest again! I can almost taste the s..... er ... escargot!

OK.... Here's the latest. Chris says he HAS to leave on Friday afternoon, so a dinner that I was hoping to plan to allow his attendance is sketchy. Unless someone has another idea.... I definitely am planning on visiting the Skagit River Brewery in Mt Vernon, but I think Marty might have some more insight into some other digs. If Marty could enlighten us as to his reccomendations, and we all sorta "vote" for what we want, we can start some concrete plans. BAC is gonna pick up he tab, so keep that in mind.

Also, since we have 7 volunteers, and only five free passes, I need to know if anyone DOES NOT NEED a pass, otherwise we will get two more lined up. Any and all that want to attend the dinner are welcome, not just the volunteers.

I will be renting a motel for the 7 days, and a car, but probably an economy or compact. So keep the Surburban available Marty!! Are you flying commercial? I will be arriving Tues, in my plane VFR permitting, otherwise I may have to drive due to the "get homeitis" the following Monday will produce.

Dinner shouldn't be a problem. It's been some years since I've been back, but I'll see what's the "happen'n place" for good food. Mount Vernon is doable, as are some others. Depends on what you want. I kinda like Arnie's over at Mukilteo, but kinda expensive. The Everett water front usually have about 3 good restaurants adjacent to the yacht club. Me? I'll go with the flow. I'm not drinking at the moment, so I can be a designated driver. The Suburban is supposed to mine for the week. Dunno how many seats are installed, but can find out.

I will be flying the Sierra. If the local weather is bad, I'll land at Wenatchee and take the bus to Everett. The East side of the Cascades usually are VFR when the normal drizzle sets in. Right now the weather is great. It would be nice if it would hold, but it usually doesn't go that long without some of the humidity that makes the place greener than a billiard table. We can just hope for the best. Maybe the fly-in will be between systems.

I got a hold of Barb and told her we need 5 spots and you guys are going to start coming in on Tues. and Wednesday and if weather is bad it my be late and she said it would be just fine. She has to talk to the ground crew and make the arrangements with them . They have to escort you to the spots . She is going to email me with the procedures and i will relay them back to you guys. It maybe the last week in June. Tell me if this is OK, and if it's not I will talk to her.

john.

Thom
I read your note I can try and get more spots if you want and see if its OK to come in later in the week.

john.

It would just be a shame if we "reserved" some special spots, and they weren't all filled. But I'm sure they are aware the weather plays a huge part in this. 5 spots may be enuf, so don't push too hard. And I think most of us are coming early rather than late. But I do think that we make a louder shout if we can all park together. I just wish we knew for sure how many are going to make it.

We seem to have a lot of support outside the northwest region already, I sure would like to see more in the region attend. I think I will try to get something made up to email to all NW members pretty quick. If any of you can "spread the word" (since many BACers don't log on that often) we may boost things a bit.

Marty's volunteered for the dirty job  (Thanx!) but teally Marty, the micros aren't the only reason to visit the Skagit River Brewery. Ever eaten there? Not soon to be forgotten!

Arlington here we come!

Yes, there is some nice places in Mount Vernon, but it's not just up the road. I don't mind the Micro's as long as the food is good.

Here are some restaurants near Arlington that were suggested by a pilot friend.

I have web site links and directions for the above list. I just couldn't figure out how to post them here. If someone wants to peruse the listing, send me a e-mail ([email protected]). In addition, the Everett waterfront (I like Anthony's Homeport), some nice Italian places and always the Casino at Tulalip. If anyone is really adventurous, there are some killer mussels in Coupeville on Whidby Island. There is a little place just a mile from the airport called Paradise Burger. Best burger in the county for many years running. Ya gotta try one. I could make a speed run in the Suburban at lunch time one day. So, show up at the tent before noon.

I should be there regardless of the weather. The weather forecast will determine my actual departure date. I can leave any time after the 4th. Typically, there will be rain at least a day or two. That's just how July is in the Puget Sound. But, there should be some breaks too. I hope all the campers are planning on wet weather. Might get lucky though, and I hope that is how it turns out. Unlikely that it will rain during the whole fly-in. I'll be staying a bit South in the Mill Creek area. I can stop by and pick up anyone staying in Everett or Marysville along the way. Just let me know where you are and we can make arrangements for pick up.
