Air Venture 2023

Hey Nelson, put yourself on the list! I just did...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CHLJHqAaHumbOt1d876M_8_3olwiGy3DPwSEtr_P0l0/edit#gid=0

Looking forward to CU there!

Just got on the spreadsheet, 7/22 thru 7/30.  Camping in the Quality Inn outside the North 40 gate, across from the Hilton.  If I camped, we would all have a river running through our tents every night, so I am taking one for the team.

Thank you Kamal for doing this.

Bob

If anyone is still looking for a place to stay during Air Venture I have a 3 bedroom 1 bath home rented in the town of Oshkosh, 2 bedrooms are open.  Asking $500 per room for the full week.  For less than the full week $100 per day (3 day minimum).

If you want to meet up, send me a message.  I'm in the dorms, but I have a bus pass.  I'm in for Tuesday, but up for tomorrow.  I plan to go to the night airshow, assuming it isn't rained out.

Andy, Laura, Linda and I will be in Camp Shoeller Thursday night through Saturday night.  My cell is 308-340-7283.

A sundowner N5226M parked in front of the Red Market on north 40.

I spoke with the camper next to 5226M, we were in 515.  Asked him if he was in BAC and got a snarky "not any more" response.  Not sure what was the issue but he has definite feelings and they aren't good.  Might be about BAC or he's just snarky.  So I just said enjoy the show and carried on, no time for nonsense.

Although we got split up on the Fisk approach

We ended up in the same row together, Greg was next to me and Trumpet was 3 down the row.

Of course there were the obligatory showers

and the rain fly broke off the tent and we had to hold it down during the storm

Trumpet caught my departure while he was in the conga line heading to the runway

Robert was a member about a decade ago. He has owned the plane for several decades. I remember he had his annual done by Yoda many moons ago.

Sorry to post reply here but on mobile it won’t let me create a new topic.

I was pre-flight for my departure Oshkosh and I saw this broken line, near the oil dipstick.
It appears to go from the firewall to the engine baffle fitting. Very small inner diameter, appears a clean fatigue break (no tool marks or crushing/deformation).

Please advise how to patch-up so I can get home.

There is an on-field emergency mechanic but if I can give more info would help the repair.

And what’s on the other side of this engine baffle bulkhead fitting????
Nothing. A threaded 90-degree fitting with no connection at all.

Unless this is some strange air-pressure data port, this appears to be leftover and unused.

If Anybody else know differently, please tell me if I got to wrong.

It’s the static reference line for the MP gauge. It will be fine without it for a while. The open fitting on the fwd side of the upper baffle is correct.

Just leave it exactly as it is and enjoy the flight home. Plan to replace the hard line somewhere in the next month or so.

MP gauge might read about 1" higher than actual, but thats the only issue.

Mark,

Were you lonely last week?

I took the bus back and forth and it was always loaded with Aussies and Kiwis. I figured there was nobody left down there but you.

Mark - - great feedback on that broken line.

This was my first time at OSH and I recommend it.  I found that 90% of the fun was at the camping area, and the Disney-world-times-10 campus a little much ... but fun.

Yep - - that rain storm had Michael and Greg and Paul all sitting on their tent and fighting the gusts.  It was definitely "three-cheeks-to-the wind" time (!)

My setup worked well.  The smaller tent held up well, with the shade awning well tied down in 8 places.  The tent stayed intact, while the awning would collapse, and then spring back after the storm.  Got lucky.

See you all at BACfest OSH in September,

trumpet

Les,

There were still enough people here to keep me busy, but I would rather have been on the bus with you all!

And, yes, it seemed like everyone I knew was going to be there, except me!
